When Jessica is told she ll never run again, she puts herself back together and learns to dream bigger than ever before. The acclaimed author of "Flipped" delivers a powerful and healing story. Jessica thinks her life is over when she loses a leg in a car accident. She s not comforted by the news that she ll be able to walk with the help of a prosthetic leg. Who cares about walking when you live to run? As she struggles to cope, Jessica feels that she s both in the spotlight and invisible. People who don t know what to say act like she s not there. Jessica s embarrassed to realize that she s done the same to a girl with CP named Rosa. A girl who is going to tutor her through all the math she s missed. A girl who sees right into the heart of her. With the support of family, friends, a coach, and her track teammates, Jessica may actually be able to run again. But that s not enough for her now. She doesn t just want to cross finish lines herself she wants to take Rosa with her. Inspirational. The pace of Van Draanen s prose matches Jessica s at her swiftest. Readers will zoom through the book just as Jessica blazes around the track. A lively and lovely story. "Kirkus Reviews""

The running dream is about a girl named Jessica Carlisle who got in a bus accident on the way to a cross country meet and lost her leg. One of her friends died but everyone else survived. When Jessica's doctor says she won't be able to run again, Jessica believes him and gives up.

Tgilbert If you like books with sports and action this book would be perfect for you. This book is written in first person pov because Jessica tells her story on how she recovers from her injury. 12mo

Running was the only thing that made Jessica feel most alive. So when she loses a leg in a tragic accident, she is devastated. The doctor told her that she‘ll walk again with a prosthetic limb, but to Jessica that‘s cold comfort.Walking isn‘t running; just standing up made her shake .Jessica struggles and struggles to get back into life but as she‘s struggling she gets to know a girl named Rosa.

Tgilbert Rosa has cerebal Palsy , and begins to see her future is full of opportunities. 1y
Tgilbert Will Jessica ever run again? 1y
MissYaremcio Oooo that looks so good! I was just missing the recommendation and theme. 3/6 1y
Tgilbert the theme of this book is man vs self because she is pushing to get her self pack on the track after her injury.I think this book is good for anyone that loves sports.Because, in every sport there will always be downfalls and in this book there is lots of ups and downs which makes it a very good book 14mo

This book is about Jessica and her troubles of loosing a leg. Jessica loves to run, and loosing a leg means she cannot do the one hobby she loves. This book was an amazing book. I do not overly enjoy running, but this book made me reconsider how I should see things and what I should think of them. Overall, this book was amazing and I think that i would rate this 9/10 because of its amazing detail.

Jessica goes from being a star runner on her track team to struggling to learn how to walk again. I didn‘t realize that the physical effort to recover from an amputation is as difficult as the mental. But this isn‘t just about the sense of defeat a person feels. It's also about how the little wins make all the difference. #youngadult

I met Wendilen today and she was my keynote speaker at a literary conference I went to. I took one of her courses on character development and plot development. I even got her to sign my “The Running Dream”. So cool!

En route home after a track meet, a car wreck crushed star runner Jessica's leg resulting in amputation; and took the life of her teammate Lucy. Inspiring story--realistic fiction

I thought it was a fast-paced, easy and quick teen novel. Although fiction, the plot was realistic and inspiration.

Discovering new books I wouldn‘t have read is why I love reading challenges. I chose this one as my book about sports for the Read Harder Challenge (I think it‘s that challenge 😂) and absolutely loved it. So uplifting and inspiring.

This story about a high school runner who loses her leg in an accident and learns how to walk and run again with prostheses is a triumph of #youngadult literature. Jessica's narration describes the highs and lows of her experience with so much heart. I could not stop listening to this #audiobook. I just had to see how everything would turn out. #diversebooks #disabilities
