I really enjoyed this book, the first in the Kate Shackleton mystery series. Kate is a young WWI war widow, trying to make her way in the post war world. She has had success doing some amateur private investigating, and in this book, she takes on her first paid investigating job. I really liked Kate as a character, and I look forward to reading more books in this series. ⬇️

julieclair This book is set in a Yorkshire mill town, and there were a lot of interesting details included about the cloth weaving process. 7mo
CarolynM I really liked the first few books in this series. I‘ve not kept up with it recently, but I should try to catch up🙂 7mo

I like to read a middling kind of book during my lunch break at work. A story that is interesting enough to draw me in but not enough that I can‘t keep an eye on the time. This mystery definitely qualifies- it‘s okay- I wouldn‘t recommend it and I‘m glad I got it at a used book sale.

#BookSpin finished! I‘ve been out of the reading mode this week, but tonight I‘ve got baseball on and I finished the first Kate Shackleton. Big thumbs up. There‘s a sadness, a gentle grief, that permeates this series, and it really fits. The mystery was interesting, but the characters are the draw. A cozy mystery, yes, but a very thoughtful one.

I‘m in! Not sure yet what my goals are, but I‘ll get a list together. Maybe a bingo for #BookSpinBingo! The tagged book is enjoyable and I read for a couple of hours tonight, but it feels like I‘m reading while slogging through molasses. WTH?

Andrew65 Good luck, great to have you with us. 😊👍 3y

1. Orchard
2. I love both, but I‘ll go soup. Together they‘re the biggest reason I love cooking in cold weather.
3. Ahhh, neither. Not one for flavored coffee.
4. Bonfires, totally.
5. Apple! I dislike pumpkin pie. 🤷‍♀️

I love doing these! If you do too consider yourself tagged.

MoonWitch94 Thanks for playing 🍂🎃🍎 3y

Getting started on my #BookSpin and #Screamathon TBR! Soooo happy I dove into #BookSpinBingo last month. I‘m already plotting future lists. November might be books with thanks/thankful themes or the word in the title (still mulling this) and December is definitely Christmas 🎄.
I‘m late to the #cyoreadathon this weekend, but my goal is three books.
Happy Saturday!

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! Looks fantastic!! I also love the idea of having a thankful theme for November! I'll have to think about that one. 3y

Having successfully tracked down missing soldiers for their families after WWI, Kate Shackleton is asked by a friend from when they were both in the VAD to turn professional and find her father, a mill owner who went missing in 1916.

Interesting background, but I think I spotted a slip with regard to Kate's family (admittedly not the real focus of the story) which an editor should have caught.

This is the first in this series, Kate Shackleton Mystery. A friend asks Kate to find out why her father disappeared. Set in a quaint Yorkshire village! In a way it is similar to the Maisie Dobbs mysteries, which I also like! #bookseries

On the theme of fibre arts in preparation for our fibre tour of Ireland. This novel is set after the war in England - Kate Shackleton, ex-VAC and widowed by the war - officially declared herself a private detective.

Lindy @Simone62 What did you think of it? 6y
Simone62 I liked it. The main character is very appealing and it wasn't just fluffy. 6y

I am loving this cost mystery. So many good little nuggets. I think our world could use a few more Mrs. Sugdens.

I liked this book but it was long and felt very drawn out.
