The town has been tormented by edgar Allen Poe inspired events. All of the plot of witchcraft accusations and the tormented events was buried under romance. When we finally get to the climax, the last 100 pages, I was ready to be done with the book. The writing style wasn't bad and I was intrigued enough to finish it, it just wasn't what I was looking for.
I had a ton of stuff to do around the house today and I was in a listening mood! This book was impossible to stop. Small town suspicion, jealousy, romance, revenge and a series of murders based on Poe stories...this was a one day read. The witchcraft element was completely pointless but I was all in anyway

This book was super fun. It is definitely an adult book with a short sex scene but dont hold that against it. Gabriel Stone, a reluctant minister, and Sophronia Carver, a widow turned rumored witch, must come together to solve crimes based on Edgar Allen Poe stories. I never saw that ending coming! Loved it

Book Number 1: The Widow of Pale Harbor by Hester Fox, 343 Pages
Getting started on this book, one that combines Edgar Allen Poe, a suspected witch, and an author whose work I love.
Every year I pick out a few books that bring in the Fall season... This one did not disappoint! I love the suspenseful growth of the plot. I was constantly guessing who the culprit was, the who and why. This was the perfect book to welcome Halloween. Complete with witchcraft, crows, Edgar Allen Poe and murder. This mystery was a pretty fun read.
I recommend this book for anyone looking for a good murder mystery
📖📚Happy Reading!📚📖

I really enjoyed this historical fiction, even if I did guess The Who done it part early. The characters were very well written and multi dimensional.
I liked this one even more than The Witch of Willow Hall, which is saying something. Hester Fox will bow be an auto-buy for me. I love her old school gothic tropes told with a slightly more modern voice...even though it is all 19th century.
Sophronia Carver is Safe in her home. The other residents in Pale Harbor think Sophronia, the widow at Castle Carver, is a witch. Gabriel Stone is trying to escape a past that haunts him. Evil is afoot in Pale Harbor. Will Gabriel find the answers to save the town and free himself from the past? Will the townspeople continue to be plagued by the twisted person and their evil vendetta? Sophronia says, Nevermore! #covercrush #edgarallanpoe
Another perfect #screamathon read. I read this one all today—hooray for #deweys24hourreadathon!
Someone please name this very specific genre of historical fiction + paranormal and/or spookiness + light romance, because I‘m pretty sure I‘m the target audience.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a great read to get you in the mood for Fall! This book was great! Sophy lives in Carver Castle alone and everyone in town thinks she‘s a witch and murdered her husband. Someone is terrorizing her with things from Poe stories. Gabriel moves to town after his wife death to become a minister for transcendentalism.

Did a little retail therapy today. Decided to go to my local indie bookstore and get a few books!
I‘ve listened to a few podcasts lately that made me realize that I should be supporting them! Especially after learning my local used bookstore closed 😫.
I‘m really excited for the tag book. That was a pure scan and find! The other 2 are on my TBR!

Review is up on my blog. Stop by and say hi. Perfect for Halloween https://reecaspieces.com/2019/09/17/the-widow-of-pale-harbor-by-hester-fox-harle...
Such an intriguing concept but, unfortunately, this one didn‘t work for me. I made it 35% in and I haven‘t enjoyed any of it. 🙁 The romance felt very cheesy, which was the biggest turn off of all for me. And, to be fair, I hadn‘t expected romance.
It‘s definitely a nice nod to Poe and if you don‘t mind the romance aspect, you might enjoy it more than I did.
Thank you Grayson House for this digital review copy through NetGalley.
