This historical fiction covered a lot without feeling stretched too thin. From wwi to the Great Depression, it covers #NYC theatre and baseball with a diverse cast of characters. I did this on audio and kept coming back to it because I “couldn‘t put it down.” Recommend.

Didn't do a lot of reading yesterday, the focus just wasn't there. I did start the tagged book on audio during my commute though, and listened to some more this morning. I'm also hoping to finish The Firebird tonight as well.

I absolutely loved this book! Right from the start I was hooked! It was everything I love! A strong independent woman, the theatre, sports (baseball), romance, tragedy and some true history thrown in the mix! I loved getting lost in this world and fell in love with the characters. I loved how the story was spread over several years, rather than a small section of the characters lives. Highly recommend this historical fiction!

Finished my “blind date with a book” book! I really enjoyed this read and am glad I chose it. It‘s not something I might have ordinarily bought either, so I will definitely be buying another book from this promotion again!

Okay guys - this was my “blind date with a book!” I‘m excited to read it. I‘m actually going to put re-reading Hemingway on pause so that I can! 📚

I‘m somewhat conflicted on this novel, It has everything I love in a book but it just didn‘t click for me. To be fair I had a lot going on this week and maybe I didn‘t give it the full attention it deserved. I did enjoy it but it wasn‘t necessary a page turner for me. I rated it a pick because I do think it‘s worth reading. I am sure there are many people who will love this novel

Loved it! I thought this was going to be a light "chick lit" novel, but it turned out to be much more substantive. Set in the Jazz Age in NYC, it's just the right mix of family, historical fiction, social issues, romance & mystery. Great book club choice -- rich for discussion!

Alfoster Oh, I liked it too—a pleasant surprise!😍 7y

I have no idea why I put this book on hold, but when it became available I jumped in. I really loved the descriptions of the platonic relationship between the two main characters...so many different types of love are possible.

Melissa_J I just bought this one. Glad you liked it! 7y

When you spend enough time browsing the stacks in the bookstore, you'll come across some amazing books! I claim I'm more of a non-fiction reader, but quite enjoy historical fiction. So I'm excited to dive into this find!

The novel begins with Miss Helen Winthrop inheriting a fortune and becoming an American heiress at 41 in 1939. Why would Colonel Rupert, a confirmed bachelor, leave Helen such an abundance of property including one-third ownership of the Yankees? The author turns back time to 1919 to spin a rich novel set in NYC in the 1920's and 30's around three central characters, all painfully keeping secrets that unbeknownst to them bind them together.

tpixie Intriguing!! 7y
Samplergal I got this in my book box. Hmmmm. Not terribly sure it sounds that great. 7y
Sills @Samplergal If you like historical fiction it may be for you. It certainly dealt with real but taboo subjects during that period. 7y
