Black Order
Black Order | James Rollins
18 posts | 50 read | 16 to read
In Copenhagen . . . a suspicious bookstore fire propels Commander Gray Pierce on a relentless hunt across four continents and into a terrifying mystery sur-rounding horrific experiments once performed in a now-abandoned laboratory buried in a hollowed-out mountain in Poland. In the mountains of Nepal . . . in a remote monastery, Buddhist monks inexplicably turn to cannibalism and torture while Painter Crowe, director of SIGMA Force, begins to show signs of the same baffling, mind-destroying malady . . . and Lisa Cummings, a dedicated American doctor, becomes the target of a brutal clandestine assassin. Now only Gray Pierce and SIGMA Force can save a world suddenly in terrible jeopardy. Because a new order is on the rise an annihilating nightmare growing at the heart of the greatest mystery of all: the origin of life."

This book was a slow start for me, but once I started, I couldn't stop!
There is a lot going on. Multiple stories all at once slowly coming into one story. I enjoyed the book.
That said, I hated the ending. The book itself was very good, but it was a lot of build up for a lackluster ending.
Worth reading once.

Day 17 #top20series #20series20days

The Sigma Force novels are always an enjoyable, light read. Their adventures around the world are always fun and interesting.

This third installment to the Sigma Force series just may be my favorite yet! The multinational plot surrounds Die Glocke- the mysterious Nazi Bell- and is quite a page turner as the strands of plot come together against more than what #TheScientist who created it intended! A riveting read that makes me excited to see what comes next!! #JulyColdplay

mcipher That calendar! I swear I‘ve seen it before and it‘s so awesome! 5y

TorieStorieS @mcipher @Eggs Thanks!! I love it- it‘s from BerkleyIllustration on Etsy! The 2020 calendar isn‘t available yet, but I have gotten one for the past two years and just love it too! 😊 5y

This is often quoted by me as one of my favourite books, and relieved to see on my re-read of the book as a Group Read That it didn‘t let me down. That said though it was a more in-depth and deeper read than I remember. I love the whole underlying theme of this one with the connection of o Himmler, the Third Reich, the search for the Super Race Nazis felt they were descended from and occultism. Anyone who enjoys this theme I totally recommend 👇

Andrew65 At 576 Pages not officially a #YearOfTheChunkster book as not over 600 Pages but due to the amount of reading for this one am considering it one, Takes more reading than a lot of 600 page books. 6y

#3 Sigma Force I liked all the information that we were given about what the Nazis were up to. James Rollins has given us a mixture of science and heart pumping action where in some place you need to suspend your beliefs. All in all, it is a riveting edge-of-your seat read that will keep the pages turning quickly. I now look forward to the next Sigma Force book and I would highly recommend this book to those who love scientific adventure reads.

Starting Black Order for a Group Read. I have often portrayed this as one of my favourite books, so a bit nervous on re-reading this that my opinion doesn‘t change. Don‘t let me down! @EadieB

I've read this one before, but it has been a while. Not quite as good this second time around (previously 4 stars), maybe 3.5 stars if I'm being generous. It's just a little too all over the place, with too many extra characters. Even though I'd read it before I had a hard time keeping them straight. But still a fun adventure mystery, with a little science and history thrown in. Secret Nazis always make great villains. I love to see them go down.

•Very interesting facet of WWII Nazi Germany used to create the lore & historical context
•Lots of heavy, non-stop action
•Good, minor character & relationship growth for some Sigma members
•Plot progression & motive felt like it took forever to take off & get to the overall point
•Not as treasure-hunt oriented as other instalments
•Unusually repetitive
•Some scene placements occurred far too early or were unnecessary entirely
•3/5

Another great thriller. I'm about 150 pages into this book and it's even better than book two. I feel like the series just improves with each new instalment. That's so awesome.
