The Book Hog written and illustrated by Greg Pizzoli tells the tale of a pig who learns to read. It is a story that may make a student feel less scared and alone if they can‘t read. The book hog will grab any book he can get his hands on because he loves the way they look and feel but he can‘t read. A librarian teaches him how fun reading can truly be.

The Book Hog is great book for any young classroom. It would make a great read aloud. The illustrator uses a pallet of mainly pink blue and gray tones to create their images. The pictures through out this book do an amazing job of portraying the emotions on non human characters in a way that will connect to the story and be relatable to children.

This is the perfect book for a student starting to read on their own. It‘s a very easy read with little to no challenging words and would be enjoyable for a younger student to see that the book joe does not know how to read

The book hog, published in 2019 was adorable. It was such an entertaining read with a great theme in it. The book hog loved books but never knew how to read until one day someone offered to read with him. All it took was practice and he too could read himself a night time book

The book hog was published in 2019 and is a Geisel award winner. The picture book uses four colors throughout, pink, mint green, grey, and black. These colors make each page stand out and help to create the tone. This story is about a pig who looks at books for their pictures but not their words because he cannot read. It is very cute.

This MF, Geisel Honor book would make for a great RA at the beginning of the school year. It is about a hog that loves books but can‘t read, but after reading along side the librarian, he started to learn how to read! The book also talks about getting books and returning them to the library which would be a great story to introduce students to how to use the classroom or school library!

Chaseb ESOL strategy 14 simply your speech by making it slower and redundant works well with the simple language in the text. Relating this book to using the library utilizes UDL 7.2 optimize relevance, value, and authenticity.

Karissacurrier I haven‘t read this, but I‘m definitely adding it to my TBR list! I love the authors site! Thank you for providing that. The ESOL strategy and UDL principle you chose work well with this book. 3y
DrSpalding He has won this award on a couple of occasions! His watermelon book is another excellent emergent reader. Using the author‘s website is one of the best resources! You certainly would want to read slowly and clearly during your read aloud to aid English learners and all students. 3y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Finally got word yesterday about the reopening steps of my local library. Curbside pick ups will begin July 9th, yay! In my excitement I will try my hardest to not be like the sweet little hog of a bookworm in this cute picture book and hog up all the books. Instead I will share my love of reading with those around me and not check out every book that catches my eye, I'll try. 😉

This super cute MF Geisel Honor Award winner is about a hog who loves books and reading but can‘t read himself! This book would be amazing for an RA. Great resources can be found at EL #3, which encourages self-talk and UDL 9.1 which promotes expectations that optimize motivation work great for this book. #UCFLAE3414SP20

The Book Hog is a MF book by Greg Pizzoli. This incredible RA and S book won the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor this year 2020! The Book Hog who is a cute and sweet pig who collects all of these books but unfortunately he couldn‘t read them. A sweet librarian named Miss Olive offered to read all the books that The Book Hog had.

carolinem A great source of this book is a video of how to do the read aloud to the students by Ms.Beth on YouTube. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_eCq88URThw 4y
carolinem The UDL principles that would be used with this book would be 5.1 which is using multiple media for communication where the YouTube video comes in and it can be helpful for students to watch a video of the book. The ESOL strategy that can be used with this book is 11 where I am placing language into meaningful context. 4y
DrSpalding This would make an excellent storytelling! What a fun video! This author has won numerous Geisel awards. If you end up teaching kindergarten or first grade, you will want to add his work to your classroom library. 4y

It. Me.

This is also a really cute picture book about a pig who loves books. I mean really, really loves books but he has a secret...he can‘t read. One day he wanders into a library and there he meets a librarian who helps him learn. Wonderful story with some great illustrations.

Sometimes you find a book that was written just for your interests, like this #picturebook featuring an elephant (!) librarian (!!) named Miss Olive (!!!) who will read you as many books as you like (!!!!). Of course the title has no personal resemblance and I greatly resent your implication that it does. #kidlit #childrenslibrarianlife
