Using his imagination he draws with his crayon and everything comes to life. I would absolutely use this as a S in the classroom and read it the same week I read the day the crayons 🖍quit. DrSpalding As I shared in class this is one of the most checked out books at the New York public library! This book certainly would be a great book to use in science. The 2012 NAPPA Gold award winner, Wonder by R.J Palacio is a RF novel about a boy named August that all he only wants is to look and be treated like everyone else. I believe every teacher should read this book. I would use this as a LC and IR in the classroom. UDL 3.2- Highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships work work well with this novel.

Kayla_C I would ask students questions throughout the story to check their comprehension and to guide them through exactly what I wanted them to get out of reading this novel. The Caldecott winner picture book Where the Wild Things Are and F by Maurice Sendak was definitely one of my childhood favorites. This book may creep some students out but some students will love it as well. It is about a boy name Max that uses his imagination and travels to a forest where the wild things are. The illustrations of the book is amazing. This would work as a RT and a RA.#UCFLAE3414SP20

Hair Love RF by Vashti Harrison is a heart warming picture book that won an Oscar for best animated short film, which is about Zuri showing off her hair and all the different styles she can do. Zuri‘s mom is away and it‘s up to her dad to figure out a special hairstyle . This This will be good for a RA in the classroom that teaches students about self acceptance and self-talk.#UCFLAE3414SP20

Dog Breath by Dav Pilkey is a F Children‘s book a bout a sweet dog named Hally that belongs to the Tosis family. She had a huge problem that makes the parents want to get rid of her. Children would love this as a RA in a the classroom. #UCFLAE3414SP20

Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown is a great F picture book for children. It is about a cute rabbit that goes through his bedtime routine, and says good night to everything he comes across. The National Education Association named the book one of its "Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children". This book works well for a RA and could be used with echo & choral reading, because it is very engaging and will aid with fluency in the classroom.

This F picture book, “What Do You Do with an Idea?” by Kobi Yamada, earned the Independent Publishers Book Award. This RA book teaches students that whoever they are they can always contribute to the world. I would absolutely read this book on the first day of school for inspiration. #UCFLAE3414SP20

It‘s Raining Pigs and Noodles Poetry/ RA book by Jack Prelutsky is a book of poems that will get students excited and engaged about poems. UDL 3.1 - Activate or supply background knowledge is a great way to check students comprehension of poems prior to teaching a lesson on it. ESOL 10 using think, pair, and share. DrSpalding Scholastic is a high-quality resource. This anthology is an excellent one for your classroom library. Often times I would keep anthologies on my easel and when we had time I would have students pick a page number at random. I would then share the poems on that page and discuss poetic elements or figurative language. It is an easy fill in that exposes them to the genre. 4y

The New York Times Best Selling F Picture Book, The Grumpy Monkey is about a monkey who just can‘t have a good day. In his eyes everything is going wrong, and he is just not happy. This book is hilarious, and children would love it and it teaches them how to handle their emotions. This would absolutely work as a RT script and aid students with fluency.

Caldecott winner picture book, Finding Winnie NF&B is a true story of a sweet bear who was rescued by a man named Harry Colebourn in 1914, going on a journey from Canada to England. She ends up in a zoo in London & become friends with boy named Christopher Robin. This work well with RT & IR, I believe both would allow students to really understand this book. 9.3, “Develop self-assessment and reflection.#UCFLAE3414SP20

Kayla_C ESOL strategy 3, “Encourage self-talk (positive thinking),” because this story teach such an important lesson that all students should learn. This is a great resource for educators, which provides with ways you can you this book to teach all subjects.

The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak is a humorous RF book that has NO pictures. This book forces the reader to make silly sounds. I would use this book in my classroom as a RA because it would most definitely entertain your students.

The Day the Crayons Quit is a F/ RA by Drew Daywalt that is a Goodreads Choice Awards Best Picture Book winner. It is about a child named Duncan whose crayons all wrote him a letter about how they are feeling. Kayla_C It ties with UDL 3.2 because in the story Duncan and the crayons has a relationship. This teaches students about relationships and in a fun and whimsical manner. 4y
Kayla_C The resource I selected provided educators with several activities that you would be able to do with your students however depending on your ELL students and their level of comprehension you may have to tweak some of these activities to better fit them and monitor them through the activities for their comprehension. I Love My Hair is a RF story of a young African American girl who loves her hair and I love that because obviously her hair is different and hard to deal with but she grows into loving it because she saw it as a blessing. This would teach students about self love and acceptance and would do well as a RA book. UDL 9.3 and ESOL strategy 3 encourage self awareness & (positive thinking) would be a great strategy for this book. #UCFLAE3414SP20

SequoiaC123 I love all of the diversity/self-acceptance themed books that my peers are reading including this one! I can totally relate to not liking my hair when I was younger, but as I saw other black women loving their kinks and coils, I learned to love mine too! This would be a great addition to a classroom library especially for the purpose of representation and self-reflection! 4y

This TL Goldilocks and the Three Bears was retold by Jim Aylesworth and Barbara McClintock. A family of bears comes home to find that they have an intruder in their house. This is a classic and most children will know and love this story. This would be great as a S in the classroom. The Word Collector by Peter H. Reynolds RF is an amazing picture book about a boy named Jerome & his love for words. This book would be great in a primary level classroom library and also would double as a wonderful RA book. The Word Collector would teach the importance of knowing more words so you can express yourself.
