Katerina Rowe, a Deacon at the church in the sleepy village of Eyam, has a fulfilled life. She is happily married to Leon and her work is rewarding. But everything changes when she discovers the body of a man and a badly beaten woman, Beth, in the alleyway behind her husband's chemist. Drawn to the young woman she saved, Kat finds herself embroiled in a baffling mystery. When Beth's house is set on fire, Kat offers the young woman sanctuary in her home and soon the pair begin investigating the murder, with some help from Beth's feisty grandmother, Doris. But neither the police or Leon or the criminals want Kat and Beth looking into their affairs and the sleuths quickly find themselves out of their depth... Can Kat and Beth solve the mystery and walk away unscathed?

Mehso-so

Not exactly bad. It was pretty good. Advertises itself as a “grippingly addictive cozy mystery”, it just misses on the “cozy”. Most cozy mystery stories don‘t have a few elements that this one had: descriptive violence and language. So this is more of an amateur sleuth, private detective story with quirky characters, one of whom is a “deacon” in the church (possibly considered a pastor in American terminology). 3.5 ⭐️

Andrew65 Love Eyam. Does this book includes Eyam‘s history during the plague in 1665? 3y
EadieB @Andrew65 Yes they do reference it throughout the book. 3y
Andrew65 @EadieB Thought they would if it‘s set in Eyam. It‘s only about 32 miles from where we live. 3y
EadieB @Andrew65 The author lives in Sheffield South Yorkshire and taught creative writing and started writing her books at age 69. Areas of S Yorkshire and Derbyshire are her preferred locations for her books. Her writing is excellent. 3y
Andrew65 We‘re in South Yorkshire. Adding her to my list. (edited) 3y

Mouse is an escort with Anthony and their taxi driver stops and shots them both but Mouse is the only one to survive. Kat and her husband Leon come across the incident. Kat becomes friends with Mouse and her aunt Nan and the three decide to investigate the murder. This is the first in a new series. I really enjoyed it.
