My Good Life in France
My Good Life in France: In Pursuit of the Rural Dream | Janine Marsh
5 posts | 5 read | 7 to read
One grey dismal day, Janine Marsh was on a trip to northern France to pick up some cheap wine. She returned to England a few hours later having put in an offer on a rundown old barn in the rural Seven Valleys area of Pas de Calais. This was not something she'd expected or planned for. Janine eventually gave up her job in London to move with her husband to live the good life in France. Or so she hoped. While getting to grips with the locals and la vie Franaise, and renovating her dilapidated new house, a building lacking the comforts of mains drainage, heating or proper rooms, and with little money and less of a clue, she started to realize there was lot more to her new home than she could ever have imagined. These are the true tales of Janine's rollercoaster ride through a different culture - one that, to a Brit from the city, was in turns surprising, charming and not the least bit baffling.

Mehso-so

A memoir of a couple from England who fall in love with a vintage farmhouse in France, and decide to make it their home, despite its being a money pit. I had trouble concentrating on the audiobook, so it was a so-so for me.

Pickpick

A charming memoir of an out-of-the blue decision to buy a run-down house in France. It includes a lot of animals, a lot of French food and and a lot of quirky French neighbours and customs - good fun!

I‘m including this for #france in #readingeurope2020, and also for #house/home for #m&m.

BarbaraTheBibliophage Oh nice this sounds like a good pick for the #houseorhome prompt for #mandmchallenge2020! I love books about France. 🇫🇷 4y

BarbaraBB Hi Helen, you‘re quiet this week, all well? X 4y
squirrelbrain Hi @BarbaraBB thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately my lovely mother in law passed away on Thursday evening. She had been suffering with MND so, whilst it was expected at some point, it actually happened much sooner than anyone thought. 💔 My husband and his family are all coping well though, it‘s such a terrible disease that it‘s quite a relief that she‘s no longer suffering. Helen x 4y
BarbaraBB I am so sorry for your loss. It is a terrible disease indeed, it must have been so hard for all of you and your mother in law herself to cope with. Wishing you lots of strength now and in the sad times ahead. 😘❤️ (edited) 4y
squirrelbrain Thanks Barbara, your kind thoughts are much appreciated 😘 @BarbaraBB 4y

Certainly not literature but a lovely story about a London couple moving to rural France. Must say it made me miss my much beloved 🇫🇷 France.
