I learned a lot about Lady Jane Grey, the nine days queen, by reading this, including that she was actually queen for a few days more. Her story is a sad one, and I feel sorry that she was used by others who hoped to have power through her, but I was impressed by the strength of her faith. This was definitely a history book and not narrative nonfiction but it was still readable. This is my #BookSpin for May

Tallis gives a sympathetic history of the 'Nine Day Queen', a young woman forced to wear a crown and who died a martyr not long after

Probably the toughest book on my #BookspinBonanza list is the official #BookSpin for the month. But I love royal history and have been meaning to read this for a while. I know very little about Lady Jane Grey. I have my afternoon tea and I‘m ready to read.

TheAromaofBooks If you make it through this one, it's all downhill!! Good luck! 4y

In an effort to make the most of my Kindle Unlimited subscription I'm going to try and read exclusively from the collection, starting with the tagged book.

Let me know if you have any good recommendations 📖

Poor, #sweetJane. Destined to live as queen for only thirteen days before meeting her brutal demise. #lilithjuly

Enjoyable. I didn‘t learn a great deal that hasn‘t been covered by other books about Queen Jane (I truly don‘t understand why she isn‘t given the title...) but the author introduced a few interpretations that I‘d never considered. For example, I‘ve always accepted the widespread belief that Frances, Jane‘s mother, was cruel and used her daughter, but Tallis introduced evidence that has me rethinking that characterization. Recommend.

An excellent biography of Lady Jane Grey. Clearly well researched but written in an enjoyable narrative style. The photo is of Framlingham Castle as that features in the story and is fairly local to me.

#TBRtemptation post! Wow-wow-wow-wow!!! This recently-published biography sounds amazing! Lady Jane Grey--the "Nine Days Queen"--was beheaded at 17 in February, 1554. One of the Tudor Era's most tragic figures, her death sent shockwaves. Her life was a complex jigsaw of intrigue, religious principle, charisma, & immense challenges. Using never-published material, Tallis provides an engaging, insightful telling. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?

There's not much new here for diehard Tudor fans, but Tallis does a good job of relating what we know about Jane's story while also identifying the myths that have sprung up around her. My only nitpick is some repetitive phrasing that I think an editor should have caught: for example, in the span of just a few pages we're told repeatedly that Jane's "feelings hadn't mellowed" towards someone despite his looming execution. A little variety, please!
