Taking a little break from work and starting a new book.

BOARDWALK SUMMER was filled with history, mystery, and romance, and set in the intriguing and stunning settings of Santa Cruz, and Hollywood. The two main female characters were strong and fabulous, along with wonderful secondary characters. I devoured this book!

This book. Husband brought it home Thursday. I finished it at 11:58pm that same day. Great transitions, excellent character development and some unexpected surprises.

The wait for this book was so worth it. It takes place in Santa Cruz, CA where I spent many, many weeks and months of my life Whole growing up and as an adult. This book took me back to a town that has always felt like home even tho it never officially was. It‘s a really good novel that even someone not from SC will enjoy. Alternating between 1940 and 2007, it follows a beauty page this contestant and her dream of becoming a Hollywood starlet.

I‘m so excited to have picked this up from the library today. I‘m setting aside the one on the left (and may not go back - I‘m not liking it much!) and starting Boardwalk Summer today. I spent so much of my growing up years in Santa Cruz and rarely get any books set there.

I was looking for this to be a quick, fun summer read, but I just can‘t seem to get into it. I don‘t find either main character to be very believable, but my biggest problem is the unrealistic dialogue. Between Mari‘s spur of the moment pedantic history lessons, the inevitable love interest calling her “cool and smart,” standing up to a money grubbing mayor being called “icky,” and more, I‘m declaring my independence...from this book.

I‘ve got a review of this one coming up later this week on my blog. I love this cover and have heard great things about it. I‘m happy to be sitting in the waiting room at the orthodontist‘s office so I can start reading. #WmMorrow #HarperCollins #TLC Book Tour

I really enjoyed this book. I did not realize until after I finished the book that its author also wrote “The Dressmaker‘s Dowry” which I really enjoyed.

Everyone is keeping secrets – Violet, Mari, Mari‘s grandfather. Why? Who were they protecting? And who will be harmed when the secrets are revealed?

It is a beautiful story that will linger with you like water lapping at your toes as the tide comes in.

First time I‘ve ever preordered a book based solely on setting. Luckily the storyline sounds good and reviews are great. Set in Santa Cruz, CA where I spent so much time growing up so I can‘t wait to read this.

Just finished this book. LOVED IT.
