Happy Yoga
Happy Yoga: 7 Reasons Why There's Nothing to Worry About | Steve Ross
10 posts | 3 read
After studying yoga in India and traveling all over the world with traditional Vedantic masters, Steve Ross returned to his hometown of Los Angeles with a broadened point of view of what yoga could be. He was surprised to find that yoga classes at home were missing the humor, joy, and celebration that fueled his Eastern studies. Instead of expanding and enhancing the joy of being, Western yoga classes focused obsessively on correcting body positions and developing a picture-perfect physique. Determined to keep his yoga practice true to cultivating bliss and inner radiance, Ross started his own yoga studio and has created a yoga movement in Los Angeles that is, to put it simply, revolutionary. Ross lives and teaches according to his belief that the secret to yoga is not obsessing over whether your feet are parallel or whether you can bend as far as the person on your left can, but about transcending the serious and allowing joy into your life, your body, your mind, and hopefully your yoga practice itself. It's about lightening up. In Happy Yoga, Ross reveals that everyone is inherently happy, but that our true self is shadowed and concealed by the layers of worry that, through habit, become our daily thoughts. In each chapter, he examines one of our seven greatest human fears -- depression, ill health, loss of love, career failure, war, death, and emotional stasis -- and uses yoga wisdom to explain how to strip away these worries to reach your core of calm radiant joy. By sharing his system of yoga postures, diet, meditation, music, supplements, and philosophy, Ross has effected profound physical and mental changes in both his life and the lives of his students. Ross's power is that he goes back to the source -- five thousand years of ancient yogic wisdom -- and decodes the abstract Eastern ideas for a Western audience. Happy Yoga is not just a set of movements and facts to consume, it is a way of shifting your awareness to bring the spirit of yoga into each movement, each meal, each relationship, each thought, and each breath. With love and joyful abandon, Ross offers us a new way to practice and live yoga. The result is profound calm, a dramatic release of anxiety and pain, and the realization that there really is nothing to worry about.

Week 5 photo challenge

My favorite type of exercise is yoga. It‘s good for me both physically and mentally. This morning I was able to take a class on the rooftop of my local Whole Foods. It was great to take my practice outside!

Today's #BFC activity was 1 hour of Yoga while watching Charmed 😂 (I know, I know.... not the calming relaxation people think of when they think Yoga, but I need to feel like I'm getting more bang for my exercise buck lol) Also, almost done with book 1! Not bad for Day 2, it's great seeing what everyone else is doing- keep it up everyone!!! @wanderinglynn

MicrobeMom @KristinaRay it was really like a typical yoga class. So only a part of it was inverted and then went went through a few poses. So maybe about 7 mins. Lots of fun. 6y
GingerAntics That looks fun!!! 6y
KristinaRay I‘m going to be on the lookout for class. Sounds awesome. 6y
LapReader @KristinaRay I teach pole dancing and we also offer this at my studio in Australia. Perhaps try pole studios or look for silk classes which are similar. 6y
MicrobeMom @LapReader @KristinaRay yes the class I took was a pole dancing studio. Super fun! 6y
KristinaRay @LapReader @MicrobeMom Oh good to know! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. 6y

Playing some more with photo apps, for my yoga designed profile picture. -- Bitmoji with new outfit updates, for my cartoon avatar. YouCam Makeup was used for my selfie makeup, then filtered with Prisma. I use Pixlr for further editing and double-exposures.

Meanwhile, on Bitmoji 🤓 also adding to my new profile photo. Now I want this outfit, which could be findable at malls with Sirens and Hot Topic, plus spiritual fashion shops. I do practice yoga at home; after the humidity, getting back to a Hot Yoga group in town. 😸 Mostly barefoot for yoga .. I don't have the boots, but do have these two-tone heels. 🖤

Non-bookish story: Yesterday I was in my yoga class and my cousin was in the row right behind me. At one point we had to go on hands and knees and stick one leg out to the back and diagonal arm out to the front to engage the core. I accidentally kicked her in the head and because she's my cousin, I started giggling. Then she started giggling. In our quiet yoga class. 🙈😂 it was over after that 😆

Donna_sBookMinute . . . And the more you tried to suppress it, the funnier it became. 😂 7y
haanim @Donna_sBookMinute spot on 😂🙈 7y
