What are we thinking, you guys? Tempted or not?

AlaMich From the photos I‘ve seen, it seems like they emphasize the color highlighting but nothing else? Or maybe I haven‘t looked closely enough. I would assume it would apply to color photos in a book or something. 2w
xicanti I want one, but my greyscale Kobo Clara‘s less than a year old so I‘ll hold off for a bit. @AlaMich, all the covers and interior illustrations are in colour too, with whiter text backgrounds than you normally see with e-ink. (Also the option to read white-on-black or with orange tones at night, if black-on-white bugs your eyes.) 2w
AlaMich @xicanti Sounds intriguing but I‘m not rushing off to get one yet. 2w

TheSpineView I got that email too. I would love to have one but I already have a Kindle Oasis and a Kobo eReader that are not very old. Maybe I will ask Santa for one. 2w
Pruzy So tempted, if not for dark mode alone! 2w
Pruzy @AlaMich I would hope so! I mean pictures are usually in colour if you read a book on your iPad or iPhone so I assume it would be the same here 2w
AlaMich @Pruzy Maybe I should check out some more photos 😊 2w

I just read about this and I like it a lot. Someone made a website specifically for those using the web browsing function on their e-readers (which normally is pretty useless): eink.link

You can direct link to both Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks for free downloads too.

https://boingboing.net/2021/03/02/eink-link-is-a-website-directory-for-e-readers...

Clare-Dragonfly That‘s pretty neat. Thanks for sharing. 3y
tournevis @Clare-Dragonfly It really is. It displays well abd is reasonably fast all considered. It's slow, of course, but better than google. 3y

Forgot my reader at home... Grrr.

Susanita Grrr indeed. 5y
Melissa_J Do you have the Kobo app on your phone? 5y
tournevis @Melissa_J Yes, but I'm reading a side loaded book at the moment. It's not on the app. Grrr. 5y

Does anyone use a Kobo e-reader? Pros? Cons?

DGRachel I don‘t have an actual Kobo ereader. I use the app on my iPad, but I like Kobo because eBook purchases there support my local independent bookstore. 6y
sprainedbrain I use the app, too... 6y
LibrarianRyan Kobo readers are nice because you can pick and choose where to put from. They will except almost any ebook for (but Kindle). 6y

llwheeler I have a kobo and love it. No real cons that i've experienced but i have nothing to compare with as i haven't owned any other type of ereader 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @sprainedbrain @llwheeler @DGRachel @LibrarianRyan Thanks all! I love my Fires but I‘m getting really annoyed with Amazon so I think I‘d like to start switching to something else. 6y
DGRachel @jpmcwisemorgan I understand that completely. That‘s actually why I got the Kobo app - Irritation with Amazon. The only things that keep me buying Kindle books is that I can share that library with my Mom, which is handy and I don‘t think there is a cloud reader for Kobo. I can use Amazon cloud reader to read Kindle books on my laptop at work, but not Kobo. My company‘s firewall prevents the apps from working at the office. 😭😭 6y

@kaye #showyourkindle

1️⃣ A Kindle and a Kobo
2️⃣ A Paperwhite and a Kobo Glo HD respectively.
3️⃣ Daily for both, though more the Kobo than the Kindle.
4️⃣ Nearly 800 on the Kobo and nearly 150 on the Kindle.
5️⃣ No
6️⃣ I don't do audiobooks.
7️⃣ I have auto-wake cases on both.

#kindlequestions

Kaye Thanks for the answers. I‘ve been curious about the Kobos but have never seen one in person. Are they the ones that have the Walmart ebook cards ? The skin you have looks just like @joscho ‘s 6y
tournevis @Kaye I do not know how to get then in the US. Outside of the US, especially in Europe and if you read in other languages than English, the Kobo and other Europe-based readers are better, because they take epub, which Kindles don't. 6y
Kaye Yea, I think I read someplace they use ePub , and that it possibly goes through Adobe ? I‘m not sure about that part. I‘m pretty tech challenged so not sure how they work. I saw the ebook card things at our Walmart but no Kobos. Not sure if they were sold out or they just hadn‘t gotten them in yet. I think they just made that deal a couple weeks ago to sell them and the ebooks. The cards look a bit like a gift card with the cover of the👇🏼 6y

Kaye Book on it. The husband said they probably just have a code to type in somehow to download the book. So Kobo Glow is like a Paperwhite ? And can you check out library ebooks that are compatible with it ? 6y
tournevis @Kaye Epub can go through Adobe, if it had DRM. Non-DRM cannbe loaded directly. There are books that come on cards and those often have DRM books in epub format. Some even also have moby. They are rare overall though. 99% of my epubs I buy DRM-free from publishers. My Kobo model is extremely similar to a Paperwhite. The big differences are in software. The newer Kobos are a smidge better than current Paperwhites, this month at least. 6y
Kaye Thanks for that. I wasn‘t sure how they worked since I have yet to see one. 6y
tournevis @Kaye FWIW, all e-readers work mostly the same way, except that the Kindles are siloed more than any other, except the Sony ones ten years ago, but no one uses tue Sont readers anymore anyway. 6y
Kaye I had one of the Sonys many years back. They were a real pain to load the books. I‘m glad they‘re so much easier now to use ! 6y

Oh, hey, reading by candlelight. No tornados but no power either. And there is a downed cell tower nearby. #firstworldproblem

MelissaSue81 My house is without power too. I am at work luckily. 6y
teebe Dunrobin and Gatineau got hit. Glad it missed you! 6y
tournevis @MelissaSue81 @teebe Rawdon was hit too. Can't check on my friends there. 85000 people with no power on this side of the river and as many on the other side. 6y

Lcsmcat Glad the tornadoes gave you a pass. I‘ve done that storm and once is enough! Wishing you a speedy return of your power. 6y
arubabookwoman Glad you‘re ok. This is when a Kindle comes in handy! 6y
tournevis @arubabookwoman Or in this case my Kobo. Still no power. 6y
tournevis Thx! 6y
llwheeler Glad you're okay. Hope they get power restored soon 6y

1️⃣ In my phone if nothing else.
2️⃣ Not in this period of my life.
3️⃣ Almost exclusively.

1️⃣ On the Kobo, 745. On the Kindle, 187.
2️⃣ It was my 1984 cover for my Kobo, but it didn't have smart wake, so I got a plain purple.
3️⃣ If at all possible, I no longer read paper. I prefer the tactile sensation and smell of paper, but it hurts too much to hold a book at all. So e-reader it is.
#kindlequestions @lova

bibliophiliac Which Kobo do you have? Do you like Kobo or Kindle more? 6y
tournevis @bibliophiliac Kobo Glo 2.0 (love love) and Kindle Paperwhite (almost identical, except in GUI). 6y
bibliophiliac @tournevis Nice! I used to have Kobo and Kindle but then stremlined to Kindle. I loved my Kobos though. They always had even lighting and the feeling of holding them was nice, if that makes sense. Their design was great! 6y
tournevis @bibliophiliac The design of the new Kobo Auras are A.ma.zing. 6y
bibliophiliac @tournevis Very tempting to buy! 6y

Repost, because @JoScho was asking. #kindlewear

JoScho Love those! Thanks for sharing! 6y
tournevis @JoScho Yhe only thing I don't like about my Kobo cover is that it's so old, it doesn't have instant wake. 6y
JoScho Instant wake does spoil us. It is just so convenient. 6y
tournevis @JoScho Yup. I just ordered a plain, uninteresting Kobo cover for the instant wake. 6y

#Kobo has a #sale on #ebooks through today. Click this link to get $10 towards a purchase of an ebook: http://share.kobo.com/x/kEToHD (full disclosure: I get $10 too). Unless I'm mistaken, Kobo books still work for the #Nook as well. Happy #CyberMonday!

When the only thing that makes sense is to go home and finish reading a book. Sometimes I think the only constant reminder that I need to get over being depressed is when I think about all the books that I can spend time on reading instead of being sad. Does that make any sense to you?
