This was my January #BookSpin and also the final in the Kingmaker series. Compared to the previous two I found this one a bit anticlimactic and some of the descriptions repeated too often (ie, “My stomach starts to lurch”, “I lose my breath”, etc.). Cat, who is part human, part goddess, is destined to be the Origin, the Queen/ruler of Thalyria. She must defeat her evil mother and to do so must finally discover all of her powers and have faith 🔻

robinb in herself. I liked seeing her come into her own, enjoyed the epic love story, and was surprised by some of the twists and turns. Overall a good fantasy series. 4/5⭐️ 3y

Amanda Bouchet's Heart on Fire, the third book in The Kingmaker Chronicles series, is so, so fabulous. First, it is, as my good friend @meaningfulmadness would say, "steamy." I mean, SUPER steamy. Second, it incorporates Greek mythology, which I (and my youngest) just love. Third, it builds on ideas of family--the family its characters choose and the family that characters find again. (continued in comments)

UnabridgedPod Fourth, it has some EPIC woman power in its protagonist Cat. And, finally, it ends the trilogy in a satisfying way without oversimplifying all of Bouchet's work in creating a meaningful back story. I highly recommend this for fans of romance, fantasy, and a combination of the two. 5y

Disappointing. I didn‘t like a lot about this book but not panning it since overall I liked the series. This feels very repetitive. Cat is still going through the same self doubt and she constantly has these amazing revelations that end up still not convincing her of her worth. It dragged. I liked the addition of some new characters a lot but did not like the anticlimactic ending at all nor the fate of some of the characters. Fizzled for me 😑

My first two finished books of #24b4monday readathon.

I don't know what happened! I liked the first book but this two were just so disappointing. I was mostly bored, the plot didn't have enough substance for me. Cat was whiny and insecure all the time (she constantly describes herself as "useless" even though she has the strongest magic). The hero was crazy possessive and obsessed with Cat.

The last of the Kingmaker Chronicles trilogy is a mix of repetitive action scenes & internal debates, neither going anyplace interesting. The end fizzles out and it‘s a relief to be done. This is the fate of many trilogies, possibly the unfortunate result of 3-book contracts. Keeping this story to 2 books and less deus ex machina would have helped. As it stands, I cared less about Cat & Griffin, & more for a centaur & Prometheus #romantsy

I overall felt satisfied by this conclusion to the trilogy. The first book is my favorite, if only because Cat's distrust and cynicism is new. It takes three books to break her out of the same mental paths and she keeps struggling through much of this book. She does grow significantly, however.

I still found the use of Greek mythology interesting and enjoyable, although Cat's powers do grow rather too strong for me. (Heroes need weaknesses.)

Chachic I found the second book such a hot mess that I'm not planning to read the third one. Good that you enjoyed it though! 6y

I loved this book and series. It‘s a pick me up from the crazy stress of our current political climate. I love the books focus on love, compassion, stronger together, redemption- ❤️

This trilogy had so many plot threads and character arcs that could have been amazing, but a lacklustre finale filled with exposition and easy outs left me disappointed. You can read my full review on the blog: http://bit.ly/2CYGZ9u

Syrrann Unfortunately I have to agree that series ends with a whimper & was let down by the dropped plot lines not to mention the killing off of a major character in a poop way. 6y
BookThingo @Syrrann “a poop way” 6y
Syrrann @BookThingo 😆 I mean, I‘m not sure how else to phrase it. I was so mad & let down. The whole last quarter of the book I just felt like the author really wanted to be done with the series so was trying to just...end things & the result felt...messy, at least to me. Only one of the side romances got a wrap up. She hinted at other things starting but never followed through. I still love the first two books though. (edited) 6y

In this final volume, Cat must conquer her insecurities. She has the power, but her self doubt hinders her. There is plenty of action in this action novel. I did miss the tumultuous relationship between Griffin and Cat. There are hints to a future series in this world. I hope there are.

This book has been slow-going, but I definitely want to know how it ends!

Chachic I enjoyed the first book but found the second one a hot mess. So I'm not even considering reading this third one. 6y
BookThingo @Chachic I hate to say it, but it‘s pretty boring. Felt like the story could have been edited to a third of the book. So much exposition and internal monologue, not much action. 6y
Chachic @BookThingo LOL just further cements my decision not to read it. Sounds like a waste of time. 6y
BookThingo @Chachic I wouldn‘t say it‘s a complete waste, but it‘s no Ilona Andrews. 6y

I took this picture 12 hours ago, because I had planned to post about and start reading this ARC. But then I ended up watching all of Stranger Things 2. It was so amazing. Now I will start reading. It's the third book in a fantasy romance series I've been loving so hard. #romantsy #arc
