Memoir Monday!!⠀

Its women like Ellen Pao and their fight that get me up in the morning. If you've ever wondered what people mean by all those microaggressions and the way traditions and habits continue to push women out, pick up this book. Pao can definitely educate to a lot of that as well as the fallacy that is "opting out" for a lot of women. ⠀

Tremendously intelligent, qualified, and capable Ellen Pao experienced gender discrimination and sexual harassment at a venture capital company to the degree that she sued. While she lost, her inspiring story here is both reassuring and disheartening. She is trying to change the culture through Project Include. Many aspects of her story will be familiar to women. I‘m totally Team Ellen.

Hooked_on_books @Soubhiville Overall quite well! Gunther‘s a bit of a curmudgeon at times, but we fully expected that. It‘s been mostly fun. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 6y

Finished the delightfully quirky novel “Sourdough” and on to this nonfiction book about Pao‘s experiences with sexism in the workplace and her attempt to redress it through an ultimately failed lawsuit. So far I‘m riveted. #CurrentlyListening

cornfedwellread I read that one a few months ago, but I have been considering getting it on audio as well since I think it's the kind of memoir that would lend itself well to that format. 6y

Found this book on my desk this morning. Not sure who put it there (I have a idea, tho)

This is the book I wanted Sandberg‘s “Lean-in” to be. It was honest, balanced and straightforward about how it felt when she lost her gender discrimination case against Kleiner Perkins. She explains what it felt like having former colleagues trash her on the stand and the drain of depositions day after day. Truly a story in resiliency and the impact of likability on a woman‘s career. You go Ellen!

This would have been a powerful memoir to read in any cultural context, but in this moment...wow - timely is quite the understatement. A very insightful discussion of discrimination and harassment in tech, and a compelling personal story. Pao is a brave, brilliant trailblazer.

This was both inspirational and irritating. Inspirational because of Pao's fight for equality in the tech world and the mental anguish she suffered while pursuing this fight. Irritating bc NOTHING has changed since Anita Hill. Pao is an excellent writer who laid out the facts. And, while she does come from (and acknowledges) a position of privilege, the reality is, only women with means can sustain a lawsuit against a multi billion dollar company.

Notafraidofwords I‘m too angry to read this one right now .. 6y

A little slow at first, but by the time it got to her time at Kleiner Perkins I couldn‘t put it down!

I'm catching up on NYT Book Review articles and found this book, which has become even more timely since the Weinstein crap. Definitely adding it to my TBR after reading the interview, and hunting down her interview with Trevor Noah on his show. #metoo #feminism #equality

Litsi Reading it now. So far it‘s a wonderful telling of an American tragedy wherein a true believer gets shown the disappointing side of America. 7y

Ellen Pao‘s memoir will not surprise you, if you are a woman or have been paying attention to how women are treated in professional spaces. That doesn‘t mean you shouldn‘t read it. #feminism #tech #women #SilliconValley

First hockey game of the season is tonight for the brand new Vegas Golden Knights, very excited to go and see the production since it has completely taken my boyfriend away (he works for the team) but in the meantime I will be reading this one.

My phone reset during the night!! Thank the sweet baby Jesus that I've been taking screenshots of my stopwatch!
Still, even knowing I have over 12 hours already under my belt, seeing this paltry time display from this morning's reading makes my heart seize up...
