pickI stumbled across this last week and had been meaning to try it, so I grabbed the first two (all they had at that library). At first I wasn‘t sure but now I am SO INVESTED in this story! I had a couple twists pegged early on but that didn‘t detract at all.
The last and first books of the year were my January #lmpbc books. They came to me mid December, so I‘m actually sending out both months‘ picks together this week. One will be arriving a bit early, the other a bit late. This was one I was highly anticipating and it didn‘t disappoint. It was filled with such a patchwork visual references and with and thematic references that the result was completely unique and surprising.

I am so glad this was picked for this round, it has been in my tbr list for a while now. I plan to devour book 2 tonight.
I am going to set 2 goals.
1.) Make sure I am on time (or early) with my #LMPBC books.
2.) Make a blackout on at least 2 Bingo bards for #wintergames2020 or #Bookspingbingo.

in a world with 5 worlds our main character oona needs to light the beacons and save the world but she is horrible at sand dancing the art of controlling sand by dancing and so she befriends a masked person and turns out he is a toki they can wield black sand to there control and the sand dancers of mon domani can controll the white sand

pickHonestly, the art in this #middlegrade #graphicnovel is so pretty I would have put up with no story at all. The story that's here is fine, but it's a chosen-one narrative that's been done better elsewhere. Still a great choice for fans of Amulet, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Cleopatra in Space. (How great are the plant people? Also I kind of want Oona's haircut now...)
pickThe Sand Warriors is probably my favorite middle grade comic I've read in a while. I initially picked it up because of the art but luckily the story was good too especially for a first volume. I can't wait to find out more.
so-soThis middle grade sci-fi graphic novel series jumps right off the shelf with its amazing color color pallet, Avatar-esq sand bending, & political upheaval, but it missed the mark for me. The places we travel to in this world were not the places that sounded most interesting. But it's still a great recommendation for middle grader readers and fans of Amulet #graphicnovel #middlegrade #kidsbooks

pick5 Worlds is a brand new series on the level of Amulet or Bone. Its a well-crafted, magical world with a great cast of kids.
There are 5 creators listed on this book, and I can see the illustrative style change slightly from one chapter to the next, but it's always beautiful. The personalities of the characters and the themes of the plot stay consistent throughout. This group obviously worked well together, creating a really strong, cohesive title

Tequila sunrise and this cute middle grade graphic novel. It was the escape I was looking for. I'm recommending this for fans of Zita the Spacegirl and the Amulet series. I love the worlds and the three main characters. I couldn't put it down.
pickThis book showed up in a @bookriot list of upcoming comics and it just so happened that a friend of mine lent me the book a week before. It was a really good start to a series. It's recommended for kids who love Amulet but it also gave me Avatar vibes!
My son loved this book so much he even read the artist bios just to keep reading it.
