Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason | Helen Fielding
THE NO. 1 BESTSELLER The Wilderness Years are over! But for how long? Bridget's second diary takes us through a year that begins with man-of-her-dreams Mark Darcy (who never does the washing up) and lurches onwards through a sea of self-help books and lunatic advice from her mad friends. Struggling with the challenges of a boyfriend-stealing beauty, an eight-foot hole in the wall and a builder obsessed with large reservoir fish, Bridget decides it's time for a spiritual epiphany. And so she departs Notting Hill for the sparkling shores of Thailand . . . Bridget is back. V.g. 'A glorious read . . . there is a laugh on every page' Sunday Times 'The best, the original, the seminal' Mail on Sunday 'Devastatingly funny' Daily Telegraph

I loved the first book but haven‘t really gotten into the next one so far. I‘m debating whether to keep going or to take it to the LFL now. Spending a week in my friends‘ overstuffed house has inspired me to step up my game of streamlining my own home. It‘s more than books, but that area requires constant diligence.

One day I was feeling especially stir crazy and decided to revamp my TBR list. More to come!

Eggs Perfect 🤩 I, too, would love to streamline *sigh 6mo

I loved this book so, so much in my late teens and 20s, and even though there are aspects of it that haven't aged well, I still have a soft spot for it. I actually prefer the sequel to the original, and recommend the British edition with its section on the death of Princess Di (which I still find oddly touching) over the American. Its connections to Persuasion are loose at best, but they're there. Definitely enjoyed this re-read! #PemberLittens

This was not as good as the original, and went on for way too long, but still had some laugh out loud moments. I loved the allusions to Persuasion and all the rewatching of P&P. #Pemberlittens

Day 18 (a day late) of #20series20days

A friend sent me a copy of Bridget Jones just before it became a “thing” here in the US. It was laugh out loud, embarrass yourself on the subway funny.

I‘m adding the sequel to my #bookspin list for September.

“Oh, it‘s so exhilarating,” said Rebecca, putting her goggles on her head and laughing into Mark‘s face. “Listen, do you both want to have supper with us tonight? Today, I decided I'm in the mood for some fun fluff. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I found this in my neighborhood Little Free Library a couple weeks ago, and I think it will fit the bill. I found the first book to be entertaining. #currentlyreading #littlefreelibrary

I loved this as much as the first book! The first half especially was so hilarious, it was a good thing that i read this at home by myself. Would have gotten funny looks out in public. 😂

This is my pile for the #24in48 #readathon this weekend! I have 2 books that I need to finish, a handful of short stories from #PageHabit, and a couple Walking Dead volumes to get through! I feel like I can put a big dent in this! I‘m excited!!!

Well it is the middle of spring in South Africa and we have winter weather! It is actually snowing in some places. It is in fact so cold, the cat insists on being picked up and cuddled...in spite of me trying to finish with Bridget, which I am loving! She is so funny!

BarbaraJean Awwww... sweet kitty! Where are you in South Africa? I lived in Pretoria North for a little over three years. 😊 6y

Taking a much needed light departure from my last audiobook selection! Can't wait to devour this one. I've only read/seen the first Bridget Jones and I loved both versions of that (even though they had some major differences), so I can't wait to check out this movie after I'm finished with the book! What are some of your favorite book-to-movie adaptations?

Another enjoyable read. Some of the situations seemed a bit over the top, but they did help lead to Bridget starting to get herself together. Some fun laugh-out-loud and cringeworthy moments.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Days spent reading this book:5

Times laughed out loud reading this book: lost count
I absolutely adored this book and once again all the characters Fielding created. It's very difficult not to fall completely in love with Mark Darcy. Now, time for part 3!

RiotMom I'm curious to hear your thoughts about the next one. 8y
Jellybeanbon @RiotMom I read the first chapter last night and was seriously disappointed to realize that Mark Darcy has clearly passed away. 8y
britt_brooke Yeah, the third one is kind of a bummer. @Jellybeanbon @RiotMom 8y

RiotMom @brittbrooke9 @Jellybeanbon agreed. I was really disappointed. 8y
Jellybeanbon @RiotMom @brittbrooke9 attempting to read it a bit further but so far I'm not enjoying it as much as the other two. I miss Mark and his quirkiness. Also Bridget seems less funny and more self absorbed. 8y
britt_brooke I was so frustrated (and pretty pissed) that Mark died that I had a hard time enjoying the rest of the book. I so loved the first two. @Jellybeanbon @RiotMom 8y
Jellybeanbon @brittbrooke9 @RiotMom I see a third movie is being made as well, I watched the trailer last night and it seems as if in the movie Bridget and Mark are only divorced. 8y

Having felt this way the past weekend. Bridget clearly captures a person's thoughts during hangover paranoia the morning after.
