4 posts | 4 read | 6 to read
From the fictitious diary of the equally fictitious Kennedy nanny comes an inside look into the early years of the dynastywith all the juicy bits intact. Newly arrived from Ireland, Nora Brennan finds a position as nursery maid to the Kennedys of Brookline, Massachusettsand lands at the heart of American history. In charge of nine children practically from the minute they're bornincluding Joe Jr., Jack, Bobby, Teddy, vivacious "Kick," and tragic Rosemaryshe sees the boys coached at their father's knee to believe everything they'll ever want in life can be bought. She sees the girls trained by mother Rose to be good Catholic wives. With her sharp eye and her quiet common sense, Nora is the perfect candidate to report on an empire in the making. Then World War II changes everything.

JFK was killed by a #gunshot 55 years ago, and this is the fictional account of him and his siblings as told by a nanny.

Joe Sr and Rose Kennedy raises their boys to be future presidents and their girls to be Catholic housewives, and left most of the day to day care to live in nannies. A lot of the tragedies that befell the Kennedys were covered—Rosie‘s lobotomy, and the deaths of Kick and Joe Jr. #nofemmeber

Centique Great pick! 5y
Billypar Perfect choice, and interesting angle for this novel- few books about JFK, nonfiction or fiction, could be labeled comedy! 5y
Reviewsbylola I know, what a tragic family!! The fictional nanny had a great sense of humor though and she really brought to life the lively Kennedy clan. @Billypar 5y
Cinfhen This sounds good! The Kennedy clan is iconic!! Are we still gonna buddy read 5y
Megabooks Great choice. I remember when JFK jr. died. So sad. My boyfriend at the time was more upset than I was! 5y

One of the things that comes to mind when I think of #America is the Kennedy clan. I love reading about them, so I grabbed some of the books from my shelves. 11/22/63 is a favorite of mine. I haven‘t read the top two books yet. #nuyear

Cinfhen I want to read the King but #pagecountphobia 😬😩 6y
Mdargusch I‘m with you @Cinfhen 6y
Reviewsbylola I loved it so much. I wish King would write more books like it. His horror writing does nothing for me. @Cinfhen @Mdargusch 6y

Despite being in the UK, here are some #presidentsday books for you. I'm midway through First Women, I finished American Wife the other week, and The Importance of Being Kennedy is from my keeper shelf - I love Laurie Graham's books and her way of weaving her characters into real life stories with sly humour but also tragedy and pathos.

Reviewsbylola I loved American Wife and The Importance of Being Kennedy sounds really good! 7y
Verity @Reviewsbylola it's really good - Nora is a great character to watch the Kennedys with. It's not my favourite Graham (that's Gone With the Windsors) but that may be more because I like era of the abdication crisis and have a tendency to find the Kennedy family monstrous! 7y
