The arrival of a letter delayed by 33 years sparks off a quest that leads both on a nostalgic journey back to the 1980s and right to the heart of France today. Middle-aged doctor Alain Massoulier has received a life-changing letter thirty-three years too late. Lost in the Paris postal system for decades, the letter from Polydor, dated 1983, offers a recording contract to The Holograms, in which Alain played lead guitar. Overcome by nostalgia, Alain is tempted to track down the members of the group. But in a world where everything and everyone has changed...where could his quest possibly take him?

Alain Massoulier receives a letter that got lost in the Paris postal system, a letter offer of contract from a music company regarding a demo tape once made by Alain and his band back in 1982. But it‘s many years too late, everyone in the band has got on with their lives..or is it?

This one still sits on my shelf but I‘ve enjoyed his other two novels, The Red Notebook and The President‘s Hat. 🇫🇷

If you‘re looking for some lighthearted, nostalgic adventure in Paris, Antoine Laurain‘s novels are a good resource. In this book, Laurain takes a playful look at how we evaluate contemporary art and pop music, as well as how political messages are communicated to the public. He also looks at the dreams of our youth and how we relate to them as we age. Next up: The Portrait! #ReadingAroundTheWorld #France

I read The Red Notebook a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. This book was at my book swap last week. A light hearted read for my bank holiday :)

Want to share a recently discovered author whose books I've read this year. The tagged book is on my TBR. I've thoroughly enjoyed the other two whimsical novellas set in Paris.

I agree with others that this is not my favorite of Antoine Laurain's books. But, I love his writing style and the narrative flow of his books. They are all great feel-good books great for a lazy Sunday or getting out of a reading slump. ❤️

Jess_Read_This Good to know! I liked the Red Notebook but haven't read his other books yet. 7y
mcctrish I'm with @Jess_Read_This this is the only book of his I've read and I quite liked it, guess I better get on with it 7y

I love the idea of nostalgia, longing for the past, and what might have been that Laurain plays with throughout his novel. It is quite different from The Red Notebook, so it's better to let the novel speak for itself than to try to compare. Nostalgia is the similar thread. These stories within one larger story are told from the point of view of several characters whose lives have crossed at some point or more in time and connect with each other.

Meh. This book didn't do it for me. I expected more romance and music. I never cared for any of the characters. It just didn't have any redeeming qualities to me.

Moray_Reads I read The President's Hat and didn't care for the style 7y

Mehso-so

I'm not sure how I feel about this book, it was nothing like his other book. This book is about how one missed connection or lost letter in this case can change the course of your whole life, this book almost felt like a college reunion!

Antoine Laurain had quickly become one of my favorite authors. All his books are engaging and light and just so charming. You can read all his books pretty much in one seating. Can't wait for the next book.
