im not too sure about the top hook, Cities That Shaped the Ancient World. Was hoping each city to have ~15 pages.. some of them have less info than whats on wikipedia.
the werewolf of bamberg is the 5th book in the hangman‘s daughter series. I‘m hoping this year to wrap up series I started over the year.

I really liked this. Very interesting. Even more interesting was the brief author‘s note at the end describing the panic surrounding werewolves at the time, not too long after witch trials that had happened. So, in addition to the characters being based on the author‘s ancestors (he descended from the Kuisl executioner family), some of the events that make up the basis of the plot really happened.
so-soI hate to push the rating of āWerewolfā down further given that as a MYSTERY plot it is stupendous. It isn‘t as good as āThe Play of Deathā and the latest in the series, āThe Council of Twelve,ā is already much better by p. 34. āWerewolfā suffers from plodding in the middle. The last few chapters are riveting. A Center Slough is a common problem in series titles. Do editors ever cut books in the middle? #mystery #germany

Also, regarding the book that's tagged in this post- if you like historical fiction i highly recommend The Hangman's Daughter series. The Hangman, Jakob Kuisl, is a real-life ancestor of the author. The stories are great. I've read the first 4- the ones shown here are books 5 & 6!

I've just started this. I've the other books in the Hangman's Daughter series, and they were all well-plotted with great characters. And they are fun reads. I need to look for more mysteries in translation. The ones I've read so far have not disappointed.
