The Rules of Parenting
The Rules of Parenting: A Personal Code for Raising Happy, Confident Children | Richard Templar
3 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
There are lots of wrong ways to bring up your kids, but there are lots of right ones, too. There's no list of instructions you have to follow to the letter if you don't want your child to end up a loser. Richard Templar's The Rules of Parenting, Expanded Edition presents the principles to follow which you can adapt to suit you and your children. Templar -- author of The Rules of Life and many other best-sellers -- has brought together 100+ parenting tips you can start using instantly. Now updated and expanded with 10 brand-new rules, Templar's rules address everything you need to know from start to finish. Beginning with the first rule "Relax" and continuing through 100+ rules, this book presents a guide to everything a parent needs to know from toddling, school, boyfriends or girlfriends, through driving lessons and college. The book begins with a section that covers the most important rules, The Rules for Staying Sane. The rest of the sections cover some of the big questions of parenting, including the Attitude Rules, the Discipline Rules, the Sibling Rules, the School Rules, the Teenage Rules, the Crisis Rules, all the way up to the Grown-up Rules.

Parenting pro-tip: buy the large box of organic, black bean burgers at Costco and after you've given them to the dogs, the box is large enough and super handy to stock your favorite snacks without anyone else eating them (fill box and shove that baby back into the freezer). This will lead to a more productive reading experience. 😀😀🍫🍪 (also works with partners/spouses).

josie281 My mom does this! 7y

emtobiasz ? my mom used to hide her chocolate in the "meat drawer" in the fridge, behind the deli turkey... it only worked bc my sister was a vegetarian! 7y
ValerieAndBooks Great idea! Now I know how to hide the frozen over-priced pre-partioned cookie dough that I always have to buy from my kids' school fundraisers -- that hubby eats straight from the freezer! Hide it in a box such as this! (edited) 7y
LauraBeth @josie281 that means you'll do it one day too 😀 7y
LauraBeth @Alytrue, @BethFishReads, @KarenUK, @JSW, @8little_paws, @KaatjeH, @RealBooks4ever, @LeahBergen I don't like to mess around with snacks! It's serious business 😂 7y
LauraBeth @ValerieAndBooks this would be perfect for that! My husband has never once opened this box 😂 7y
LauraBeth @emtobiasz your mom is brilliant! 😀 7y
LauraBeth @mom2bugnbee gotta use a box over a bag! More durable and bigger 😂 7y

Hahaha! Who remembers this from their own childhood? I was always more than happy to go to my room, cause this was where the books were. 😉📚🤓

MeganAnn Me too!!! 8y
InLibrisVeritas I was usually in my room anyways, my punishments were usually to go outside. 😒 8y
jmtrivera Haha, when I really misbehaved, I'd get, "Go to your room - and no reading!" I would always sit there wondering if Dad would really know if I did... 8y

Lynnsoprano @InLibrisLibertas I thought my parents were the only ones who did that😄 8y
ValerieAndBooks Yes! This was me too! 8y
TheBookAddict 😆me too. 8y
Dooplum I knew I was in serious trouble when my parents threatened to take my books away. No worries though because they never did! It definitely helped curve my behavior though 😊 8y
Zelma My punishment was not being allowed to go to my room and to sit in the kitchen and be social while dinner was being prepared. No kidding. 😂 8y
saresmoore My 7yo's punishment is "No books!" I rarely go through with it... 8y
Bookquilter ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 8y
Lindy I was so sad the time a woman came to the desk and cancelled her 10-year-old's library card because the child was reading too much. 😟 8y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled My punishment was "Get out here and spend time with the family!" ? 8y
melbeautyandbooks @Lindy- Wow! That is sad. 8y
Mlfoley012 Yes, this was so not a punishment! ;-) 8y
Tanner Yeah, my parents knew that this would not be a punishment, so they would make me stand in the corner for hours! But I had a pretty good imagination so even without a book, I got by! 8y
