Elizabeth of East Hampton
Elizabeth of East Hampton: A contemporary retelling of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice | Audrey Bellezza, Emily Harding
5 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
From the authors of Emma of 83rd Street, a modern retelling of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice set in the Hamptons, where classes clash, rumours run wild, and love has an infuriating habit of popping up where least expected... Its a truth universally acknowledged well, by Elizabeth Bennet anyway that theres nothing worse than summer in the Hamptons. She should know, shes lived there her whole life. Every summer, her hometown is inundated with rich New Yorkers who party til dawn then disappear for the rest of the year. Not that Lizzy blames them, shes anxious to leave too. But after putting her own dreams on hold to help her family, shes still here, surfing the same beach every morning and waiting for something to change. Shes not holding her breath though not even when her sister Jane starts flirting with Charlie Pierce, the hot new bachelor in town, who introduces Lizzy to his even hotter friend. Will Darcy is everything Lizzy Bennet is not. Aloof, arrogant and rich. Of course, money has never mattered to him. In fact, its number one on his long list of things that irk him. Number two? His friend Charlies insistence on setting him up with his new girlfriend's sharp-tongued sister. Lizzy Bennet is all wrong for him maybe that's why he cant stop thinking about her. Lizzy is sure Will hates everyone. He thinks she wilfully misunderstands them. But just as they strike an uneasy truce, mistakes and misconceptions threaten the peace. Between a hurricane, a drunken voicemail and a deceptive real estate agent, the two must sift through the gossip and lies to protect the happiness of the people they love even if it means sacrificing their own. But when the truth also forces them to see each other in an entirely new light, they must swallow their pride as they learn that love is a lot like surfing: sometimes the only way to survive is to let yourself fall.

#Baturalitsy #HyggeHourReadathon

For tonight‘s #HyggeHour I‘ll be reading Mouse House for #ChildrensClassicRead2025 & with the remaining time, more of the tagged book for #JaneAustenThenAndNow

I‘m drinking pineapple lemonade (it‘s humid tonight) & having some of this lemon cake bomb that I got at the bakery near the bookstore on Saturday. 😋🍋💛

Mood is tired & not ready for Monday at all. I‘ll be heading to Kona very early tomorrow. 😵‍💫

The first book from these authors, an adaptation of Emma, was an unexpectedly fun and enjoyable read for me and I'd really been looking forward to this P&P companion. I'm happy to say that it didn't disappoint! I loved the characterization of the Bennet sisters here and the Lydia/Wickham twist was a fun play on the original. The potential for both a Persuasion and S&S set in the same world is teased here, and i hope we get them- I'd read eagerly!

DebinHawaii I‘m reading this one too this month! 🤗 2w

Keeping it reasonable for my April #PemberLittens reading! I've never read Longbourn (!) so it's time, and I can't wait for Jane Austen's Bookshelf. I loved Price's funny S&S mystery so I'm glad to be reading what came before it and Bellezza/Harding's Emma adaptation was so clever that I bought the tagged book the instant it was released. I waited a long time to read it but now seems like the perfect moment, as a kickoff to a month of adaptations.

🤩 This beautiful story was so much fun! Their chemistry felt so familiar, all while still adding a new take and new, modern ways for them to connect 🚤 I also really liked her family, finally fleshed out and capable in their own ways, v chaotic good 🥰 another win for these authors!

Having enjoyed Emma on 83rd Street, I jumped at the opportunity to devour another Jane Austen retelling by this talented duo. As I suspected, it did not disappoint.
