Hopeful plans for Day 6 of #Jumpstart2023! I‘m starting my stretch of 6 overnight shifts, so fingers crossed the hospital is nice and quiet (yeah right!), and I can keep up with my average of 3-4 books a day. @Lizpixie
I‘m doing two #Roll100 lists (1 Chirp & 1 NetGalley), and these are the 3 books I have left to finish this month. Hoping to knock them all off in one day. @PuddleJumper
This book is so much more than it seems!
Fun private school trope with a good rivalry, fun atmosphere, & an entertaining protagonist. There were a few imperfections, but I still didn't want to put this book down & had a good time with it. The fake dating trope totally worked for me. Doe & Wells's relationship reminded me of the Rory/Jess dynamic from Gilmore Girls & I loved their banter. Samantha Markum has a fantastic way with words & I will definitely be back for more from her.
A fun YA rom-com that blends together the enemies-to-lovers and fake-dating tropes into a long-running prank war between two rival boarding schools: Weston, which is all girls, and Winfield, which is all boys.
Doe is the master of pranks at Weston, and she is determined to win with her classmates. In a surprise twist, it is announced that the two schools will be merging next year, and the prank war goes into overdrive.
This is a YA novel, so Doe gets a pass for being super selfish in the beginning, but I was glad to see she did struggle with doing the wrong thing. And, the way it was all worked out felt real to me. Sometimes, the guy really is cool and you can just make up without extra drama. And yes, actions have consequences. Minus her single track kind, this was a lot of fun and I love the relationships at play here.
