Sometimes this kind of story turns out to be something more, some glimpse of life that expands like those Japanese paper balls you drop in water and then after a moment they bloom into flowers, and the flower is so marvelous that you can't believe there was a time when all you saw in front of you was a paper ball and a glass of water.

I‘m here with my daughter, who‘s four.
Who, because no one gives princess lessons,
has opted for dancing. She likes the tutus, the tap shoes,

the tights. The teachers are kind.
They‘re graceful as egrets, strong in the thighs.

Sweet and entertaining, this was a perfect listen for a drive to see my mom. Now I want to move to rural Scotland though. Also contains helpful reading hints like how to turn the page on your Kindle using your nose.

[DELETED] 614065233 I have been doing the nose turn for years. Not the sort of thing one discusses in public though so shh ;) 7y

Cookie time ?

" Another Protector, wearing latex gloves, carefully pull old–looking books out of a big wood box and place them on the table. When one of his brothers try to touch a book, he slap hands or punched stomachs and told them, "Until the Crow says you can touch, you don't touch."
"I just want to look."
"No."
"But–"
"I will kill you!" the Protector bellowed.
Still not the weirdest part. "

Adding myself to the didn't read a lot in November group; for both good and bad reasons. Bad: the world is insane. Enough said. Good: my best friend was visiting from the other side of the world and I'm finishing up editing a novella (unexpected length may have edged it into novel length). But I did do some rereading. Anne Lamott can always lift my spirits. #bestofnovember

This audio-only novella is free at Audible until November 2nd. It's a satisfyingly twisty noir SFF and reminded me a lot of Alex Hughes' Mind Space series with a little of Jim Butcher's Dresden thrown in. Works for me.
AND Zachary Quinto narrates—probably should have led with that 😄

Well-ReadNeck And, I just snatched that right up!!! 7y
