#UncannyOctober #day12 #SetInEasternEurope This novel is set in the Wallachia of Prince Dracul & his court. It tells the story not of him though, but of his children, Radu, who is handsome & gentle, & Lada who was born kicking & screaming and stays that way. Growing up in Wallachia, she's the fierce fighter to Radu's kind diplomat. When they're ransomed to the Ottoman Empire, Lada vows to win her freedom & take the rule of Wallachia for herself.

DiruVamp Oh wow I love that cover! Wow those eyes! 6y

#SetinEasternEurope #Uncannyoctober I want to read it before the new movie comes out. I can't wait to see Kenneth Brannagh as Poirot 😄

[DELETED] 3803335244 It is such a good read. It was my first Agatha read last year in December. Made me a fan 💚 I've read 2 others since. 6y

Another book I haven't read! 😢These challenges are a harsh reminder of all the lovely books I've owned for years and not gotten around to reading. I'm sure y'all can feel my pain. #uncannyoctober #setineasterneurope #hallowedgrounds #hallowreads

diovival Yep, right there with you. 🙈 6y
jen_hayes7 @diovival Thank you!! I knew I wasn't alone in this!! 🤣😳 6y
Varske I got started, but found the beginning antisemitic and anti- almost everyone else, a bit disturbing. Eventually I realised it was just some typical attitudes at the time. But somehow it didn‘t encourage me to carry on, although the plot was very interesting about two people who seemed to inhabit each other‘s lives. Or one split identity. Perhaps curiosity will make me eventually go back to find out more. 6y

Dresden counts as Eastern Europe, right? I'm sorely lacking in books about the eastern parts of the continent. 😅😣🌍 #setineasterneurope #uncannyoctober

Day 12: #setineasterneurope

I haven't read this one yet. Shocking, I know! Rereading the description made me want to plop down and start. I've got a few library books, Bradbury books, and an unread book club pick that are not gonna let this one jump the line though.

Many years since I read this book but did love it at the time, giving you the history of Poland over eight centuries through the story of 3 families. #SetInEasternEurope #uncannyOctober

#setineasterneurope #uncannyoctober Still on my TBR.I love the cover art ,it was used on the first edition published in Poland in 1937.And the artist?Bruno Schulz.John Updike blurb says the novel includes “some of the truest and funniest satire in print.”Why the publication of this edition was a big deal is previously it was translated from Polish to other European languages then into English. The translator ,Danuta Borchardt, was born in Poland.

jveezer On my TBR list too. I've read one of his others, Pornografia, and it was very good. 6y
Leftcoastzen @jveezer I want to find that one too!😀 6y
jveezer I definitely am interested in reading that Forward by Sontag too. 6y
