Working as a nurse before, I've had several encounters with cadavers, doing post mortem care when patients die. And as they wheel away the gurney carrying the covered body, I'm always overwhelmed with questions: So what's gonna happen to her? Will she have lots of people crying for her? Did she have a good life at least? What will happen to her loved ones now? Death is not something scary for me, but my unanswered questions always haunted me...

Wish our holiday could have been extended a bit more... Had Monday off yesterday due to Benito Juarez's Memorial day in Mexico. He was a former president, and a national hero known for making reforms to create a democratic federal republic. Today's read is quite fitting, speaking of men of unique character...

This was my favorite when I was working in Saudi Arabia a few years back. Sale of this book was prohibited there, but a friend lent me his coverted copy, and I fell in love with the writer. Alaa Al Aswaany is a dentist turned activist from Cairo. This book tackles poverty, corruption, and gender inequality in Egypt, weaved into an extraordinary web of stories from the people in the Yacoubian building, which is actually a famous landmark in Egypt.

I think this is like #5 out of 21. Will try to finish all of Mario Vargas Llosa's 21 novels both in English and Spanish by the end of this year... #bookgoals #Spanglish
