I absolutely loved this book. It has social experiments, raw characters, children, drama, and everything else you want. It was much more character driven than I expected and it was so well done.

BookwormBeth You must tell what you think of "The Witches" when you finish. I've almost picked it up a dozen times but reviews have been so mixed. Would love to know what you think of it. 7y

Enjoying this as my first book of the 24 in 48 Readathon. It's uncanny how well the movie takes dialogue and descriptions from the text. Many scenes are done verbatim. It seems to speak to Goldman's talent as a screenwriter (All the President's Men, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid)

I am so in love with this book. The story is haunting, the writing is fantastic, and it captures the spirit of Arkansas, to the point of making this Hendrix alum miss the Natural State.

What a strange book. I didn't hate it, but I also found it difficult to really care about the story. The premise was super interesting but the execution and plot was simply predictable. If you're looking for a quick beachy read, this isn't a bad pick.

This is the kind of book in which none of the characters are especially likable (many are actually quite infuriating), and yet you get so invested into what is going on that you just can't stop reading. I loved this book, I loved the twists and turns, and I loved the overarching story of the hit and run. I wasn't shocked by the end but I didn't feel like I needed to be. Definitely one to pick up!

Sex Object: A Memoir | Jessica Valenti

Pickpick

Woweewoweewow. This is intense and heartbreaking and cynical and really great. I listened on audio (Valenti narrates) and it was an incredibly powerful listening experience. It'll punch you in the gut and get you fired up, and offers an all too relevant picture of sexism in our world.

Ooooh this was a good one. Totally character driven, with juicy and emotional narratives. The paramedic narrative running through the book was fascinating and I could have read another 200 pages about these characters. So glad I picked it up!

Underwhelmed, especially after the brilliance of STIFF. I am definitely not writing Mary Roach off completely but I might take a little break before I pick up any more of her work. #readharder

Carleneishere Packing for Mars and Grunt are my favorites of hers. I liked Stiff, thought Bonk was meh, and haven't bothered with Spook 7y

People like it when you tell them things, in suitable portions, in a modest, intimate tone, and they think they know you, but they do not, they know about you, for what they are let in on are facts, not feelings, not what your opinion is about anything at all, not how what has happened to you and how all the decisions you have made have turned you into what you are.

LOVED this. I adore the show Top Chef and thought Padma was a badass, but her story outside of Top Chef is fascinating and a roller coaster of emotions. The descriptions of food are heavenly and the only thing I wanted more of was recipes. Definitely a great memoir to pick up.

It's not a happy story and you won't find any jokes, but this is a gripping stop that will scratch your Deadliest Catch itch. The twist was especially twisty and it's got a nice touch of haunting otherworldliness, and there's definitely no bow wrapping up the book at the end. Read it and stay far away from icy oceans!
