Take out your tissues and hold on because you‘re going to take an emotional ride with this book by John Green. This RF book is about Hazel battling cancer and meets someone special named Augustus! This book is made for 13 and older so more on the older side if you‘re teaching high school but it‘s very good! There is also a movie and I tried to meet the actors in Miami but they left a second after coming out on the stage. Miami was too crazy!

AmyPerezCubas They do use some vocabulary I would want to talk about so UDL 2.1 to talk about vocab and ESOL 2 promote small groups to cry together 6y

Gabylaurel10 I had this book as a choice to read in high school and i forgot to read it!! So this book is definitely on my list!! 6y
DrSpalding This is such a good book and a great movie. I just saw on Twitter that he is releasing small versions of his most popular titles, this fall. Neat format. 6y

I had to write about this book by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake because it holds a special place in my heart. Before 6th grade, we had to choose a book we read over summer vacation and do a project on it. I chose to do a scene from this book presented in a shoe box. I didn‘t know how I was going to do it so my Uncle came over and helped me. I wish I had a picture but I didn‘t own a phone, but we made an amazing display all made

AmyPerezCubas Out of candy. We made the water, grass, and everything made out of just candy nothing else. My project was covered with ants at the end of the school day but it was totally worth it! 6y
AmyPerezCubas This book is CL and F and for ages 6th and up 6y
AmyPerezCubas I thought making a visual with this book was super fun so I would go with UDL so I would offer ways to learn besides visual and auditory information and ESOL 30 by using drawings and other projects 6y

Bridge to Terabithia | Katherine Paterson

I don‘t even know where to start with this book. I read this book in middle school and saw the movie probably more than 100 times. I always thought I was a trio with Leslie and Jessie. This book is amazing because it takes your students‘ imagination to another world. It is such a pleasurable read and I think everyone should read this book at least once (also see the movie!) I read that this book is for ages 10 and up but I read it earlier.

AmyPerezCubas @emilybanne I KNOW! What a great idea!!!! 6y

Wishtree! This was such a great read with so many different meanings! This MF book represents friendship, hope, and kindness and it would be a great edition for your classroom library! Age range 8-12 but again, this book can be read by adults too and they would enjoy it. I found a great source for printables that you can use for your lesson. UDL 1.1 and ESOL strategy is to make sure they comprehend everything and put into groups

AmyPerezCubas Book by Katherine Applegate 6y

Another favorites of mine growing up! This book written by Paul Zindel was on my reading list going into the 6th grade. I remember randomly getting this one from the library and fell in love with the story. It is about two sophomores John and Lorraine who are troubled until they meet an old man name Mr. Pignati! There are other books in the series including one with other characters! You‘ll see John and Lorraine again though! Best for 6-8th grade!

Gabylaurel10 Seems like an interesting book to read! 6y
AmyPerezCubas For the activity with this book, my activities would be small group discussions and asking questions. With this book we are able to talk about the meaning of the book. 6y

Lily's Ghosts | Laura Ruby

Bailedbailed

This is the book that made me fall in love with reading growing up! The awesome author Laura Ruby wrote this F and CL book about a 13 year old girl named Lily and her mother moving to Cape May to stay at her Uncle Wes‘s home! His home might have some other guests living in it as well aka GHOSTS! It it such a fun read and it‘s not a scary book! Best for grades 6-8, however, I think I read it a little earlier.

Gabylaurel10 This seems like such an interesting read! Especially if read around Halloween giving it that spooky vibe! 6y
JayaJ This seems like a fun book to read! I personally love horror, paranormal type of things so I would definitely have to check this books out! 6y
AmyPerezCubas @Gabylaurel10 Yes! What a good idea 6y

AmyPerezCubas Gaby pointed out that this book would be fun for Halloween time so if I presented this to my students it would definitely be around that time. There are no sources for activities but with this book I would have the kids create their own silly ghosts to take home for fun! 6y
AmyPerezCubas UDL 1.1 with offering ways of customizing display of information and ESOL 6 for monitoring students‘ comprehension 6y
DrSpalding What is CL? Just because you cannot find a specific activity for the book itself does not mean that there are not general lesson ideas to be found for this type of book. Read write think is an excellent resource to find just such ideas. 6y

What a great HF book for your classroom library! This is such a great way for your students to learn about important women who made a huge difference in this world. Who wouldn‘t want to read a book featuring Oprah Winfrey and other amazing women? I read that this book is great for third grade but in my honest opinion I think it is great for all ages. I read this book for the first time last semester and loved every page!

AmyPerezCubas Written by Chelsea Clinton and illustrated by Alexandra Boiger! A great activity for this assignment is have your students write about an important woman in their own lives! 6y

This SF series by Veronica Roth will always be one of my favorites! I really loved the first movie but the other ones disappointed me. However, at least I have these amazing books to always fall back on! This series will always be in my heart ❤️ If you love the dystopian world and want to look into Trice Prior‘s life after society is divided into five factions, than definitely give this book a read!

AmyPerezCubas For grades 6-8 and 9-12. There are a lot of activities where you can ask questions during each part of the story. There are also fun surveys your students can do that will actually put them into factions. What is the difference between selflessness and giving? 6y

Bad Pets Best In Class is a NF book written by Allan Zullo! It is a fun read to have in your classroom. The book has actual true tales of misbehaving animals! It was such a fun book and if you love puns, definitely read this! There are so many sources online to use when showing this book to your students. There are worksheets online for each story so they can‘t have even more fun with it. This book is also good if you want to teach vocabulary!

AmyPerezCubas Also this book is great when teaching your class about figurative language (idioms, puns, and alliteration). ESOL strategy is best with number 5 which is teaching vocab supporting key concepts. The UDL principle that is best is 2.1 which is clarify vocabulary because this book is actually very good to teach new words. 6y

Love You Forever is a classic NF book written by Robert N. Munsch and illustrated by Sheila McGraw. The story is about a little boy that goes through childhood into manhood. With this book you will see that parents‘ love can travel through generations. UDL 3.2 and ESOL 4.

AmyPerezCubas If I read this in my classroom it would probably be around Mother‘s Day and we would do activities that have to do with the kids crafting something to take home! I would have them do cards with the special song from the story and have them draw a picture of their own family 6y

AmyPerezCubas The UDL I choose for this is 2.5 and ESOL strategy 13 6y

Amazing Grace | Mary Hoffman

Amazing Grace was such a cute and inspirational book! It is definitely one of my favorites now. It is a CRF book about a dark skinned girl with a huge imagination wanting to play Peter Pan in her school play but her classmates don‘t believe in her because she isn‘t a boy and doesn‘t look like the ideal Peter Pan. Grace is an iconic character and everyone should read it! I even read it to my boyfriend and puppy tonight. They loved it so much!

AmyPerezCubas I would definitely encourage number 3 with my ESOL students because this books requires positive thinking and all the students need that! For my UDL I would use 6.1 because Grace had a goal and she went for it! The best part about this story is the illustrations, so I would definitely walk my class back through each page of the book for them to talk about it. I would also separate everyone in small groups so they can talk about how to treat 6y

Whoever You Are | Mem Fox, Leslie Staub

Whoever you are is a wonderful read by author Mem Fox and illustrated by Leslie Staub! It is a RF read and has so many important messages. The UDL for this book is 2.1 because there are a lot of vocabulary words and symbols to incorporate in the story. There are several ESOL techniques to use but one would be number 2 because all the kids should participate while reading this story. All the children in your class can easily to relate to this book!

AmyPerezCubas An activity I would do with my class is go around the room saying how they relate to this story. Another is asking what kind of home they live in since the characters in the book lived in such different places. I would hand out a worksheet with it saying what they love, what makes them sad, and what makes them happy. I‘m sure so many kids would have the same responses and they would see how similar they are to one another. #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y

This FF book was such a fun and imaginative story to read! I enjoyed it so much especially since I wish Christmas was all year myself. This book is about a young boy who dreams about having a snowman who never melts to join him all year! They do everything together from riding a roller coaster to enjoying the 4th of July fireworks together! I think that the UDL 1.1 would fit this book with activities like comparing the seasons.

AmyPerezCubas For this book I would definitely use 45 for ESOL learning and I would have them compare and contrast the seasons and other items together for a fun activity. I also would have the kids make their own snowmen and have each of them wear summer clothing for some fun! 6y

Frederick by Leo Lionni is a great book to GR! It won‘t the Caldecott Honor Award and it is such a wonderful TL book. The story is about how the mice are all preparing for winter, but Frederick was not helping. However, his stories are what lifts the spirits of everyone during the winter. The UDL that I think is best for the book is 6.1 because their end goal is to make it through the winter and the listed spirits and happiness they received from

AmyPerezCubas Frederick was really nice 6y
AmyPerezCubas A popular way to help students understand the Vocabulary in this book is to make slideshows with pictures so they can understand the meaning. A fun activity for the kids to do is to make their own mice and even create a story for it! I would definitely use number 46 in the ESOL learning because this is a great book to do hands on activities with. #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y

The Word Collector is such a great RF book! It is by Peter H. Reynolds. Jerome discovers the magic of words around him. He might learn difficult and impressive words, but he realizes that the simplest words have the most impact. A great ESOL strategy would be number 5 since there are so much vocabulary in this book for your students to learn! I would have fun activities for the kids to learn the tricky words in this book.

AmyPerezCubas The students can be in groups and try to come up with the right definitions for each word together! The UDL I would work with is 3.3 because I would come up with ways to guide them and process the words using the pictures in the book! #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y
