The Hunger Games is a SF book written a Suzanne Collins, it‘s a New York Best time Seller and perfect LC for your class. The book tells a story about a nation with a capitol and surrounding 12 districts. My ESOL strategies are 1-4, students need a background knowledge on dystopia world, as well as encouraging conversation with peers on the book. My UDL strategy is 5.2, I want to expose my students to numerous media for communication, especially with this book and project they can make a pilot chart! PowerPoint or a video instead of a poster bulletin board. 6y

My ESOL strategies are 2 and 3, this book is quick fun read and after the student read it by themselves they can talk in groups. My ESOL students maybe confused because they probably haven‘t heard about these amazing women, so I wasn‘t constantly check that they comprehends and make graphic organizers to guide them for their presentation. My UDL strategy is 2.3 and 2.5 I want to decode the text, and show different outlets of media where my students can research. 6y

The thing about jellyfish is a RF book written by Ali Benjamin, this book is great read for students in middle school and can be used for a LC & RA. We go on a journey in the book with the main character Suzy as she tries to uncover what was the real cause of death, to her best friend Franny. This book brings out so many emotions and can help students who have just recently experienced a death.

It‘s important that our ELL learners have that background knowledge so they can make the connections, and we have to model the gestures and feelings throughout the book. GGallegos I think this is a great book (I have yet to read it), and you make a great point of taking an the step to read it to the class. There's a difference between having books in other languages in our library and actually using them. 6y

One Crazy Summer is Newbery Honor book award winner along with many others, written by Rita Williams-Garcia ,It‘s a HF fiction book that will be a great LC in your class. The story is about 3 sisters who travel to Oakland, California in 1968 in search to find answers about their absent mother. You follow the girls journey as they witness the civil rights movement and look for answers on why their mother abandoned them.

All of these strategies have in pre teaching,scaffolding and listen/writing activities to make sure the ELL is comprehending. Chicka, Chicka 1.2.3 is a New York‘s Times Best Seller F book written by Bill MartinJr, Michael Sampson and Lois Ehlert. This is not only a great RA but a wonderful S strategy. This is an excellent addition to your classroom library for your young readers! The book is about numbers climbing up an apple tree, but as the numbers pile up and the bees threaten them who will save the day? This a fun read along that students can count, laugh and play.

SierraC Above is a link for a fun activity to do with your class, that also improves the students reading fluency. Students will do a readers theatre and with Chicka, Chicka 1,2,3 and will learn about rhythm. The EL strategy I would use is 14, I would just slow down my speech at a slow but moderate once however still engage the children! 6y

This modern fantasy book is a great RA for young elementary grades. The story is about a young rabbit named Jasper, who loves to eat carrots from a local carrot patch. Why Mosquitos Buzz in People‘s Ears is Caldecott awarding winning TL book, written by Verna Aardema and Illustrated by Leo and Diane Dillon, this book will be a great RT and RA. In this West African folk tale a mosquito told an Iguana something foolish and that lead to the uproar in the jungle. This TL book is an extraordinary edition to your classroom library, the vibrant pictures and humorous dialogue will keep your students intrigued.

SierraC My favorite line from the book is when the python says “Now, why won‘t he speak to me?” “Iguana must be angry about something. I‘m afraid he plotting mischief against me!” I like this part from the python because it‘s in the beginning of the book and you start to realize the little things the animals are doing leads to the plot of the story. 6y

You want to supply background information, might want to familiarize the students with the different animals in the book. The book is based of a man named Vasily Kandinsky who was born in Moscow, Russia into a very strict family.
