Beautifully written, introspective and interesting. However the ending felt rushed and not given the build up it deserved, I also predicted it early on in the book unfortunately. Well worth the read!

4/5 I picked this up after seeing it's movie be called a knock off of a quiet place, even though the book came out first. It's almost like everythibg the Quiet Place was missing, complete build up to an apocalyptic situation, told through the eyes of a family with a deaf child. The authors use of social media was well done, and it made for an incredibly visceral and interesting story of the fall of society. #scifi #horror

Christie's style is so character based, with all information delivered to the reader primarily delivered through dialogue. She did an amazing job of keeping all options open, and causing doubt everytime you think you've solved it. Leading to a satisfying conclusion that makes sense, to me at least. A classic closed room who dun it, done right! #catsoflitsy #mystery #botm

Day 7 of #jingleshelves snow on cover. I usually don't like illustration stickers on covers, but I love the illustrations of Brett Helquist and it works so well on this book. Got to go to a talk by Gaiman a few years ago and it was amazing!

slowly catchin up. Day 5 of #jingleshelves is current read . My BOTM pick Artemis. This book has mixed reviews, and I feel like it's because non scifi fans were wooed by The Martian. Being super technical in a fun way alway crosses genres and lures new readers. Then these 'not usually scifi fans' picked up this, which is very much just a scifi heist and were disappointed. It's not The Martian. But that's okay. His writing flaws are more obvi tho

Day 2 of #jingleshelves a book that takes place in winter. I was excited to read this book... but was rather underwhelmed. The concept was interesting, but the characters felt weak and some of the plot devices used to progress the drama and story were super forced and not really well done.
Disappointed with this one.

bookloo I felt the same, I just DNF‘ed it. 🤷🏾‍♀️ 6y
ABibliophagist @bookloo I barely finished it, I had to force myself to haha 6y

I'm gonna try and catch up to #jingleshelves. This was for Day 1, best cover. Hands down my favorite cover on my shelf. I hunted this edition down as apparently it's not available in the US!
This has been on my TBR for nearly 10 years... whoops...

ABibliophagist @Lovesbooks87 I just started it! I really like it so far, has an almost old school scifi air about it! 6y
Lovesbooks87 It isn't something that I would normally read but it had me hooked right away! 6y

ABibliophagist @be.aesthete This is just the standard BOTM, but I think I want to try 'Blind Date with a Book's' new subscription! 6y
ABibliophagist @Lovesbooks87 it hooked me too! Kind of makes me think of old 60s Heinlein but more modern! 6y
