Has anyone else noticed how much King likes the inexplicable?! One of my favorite King books!

“Perhaps this is what people do with the inexplicable,” he thought. “ this is what they do with the irrational that refuses to be broken down into the normal causes and effects that run in the western world.”

Every Weds, we pick a new author to be our #writercrush, from bookseller favorites to underrepresented authors you need to know about. This week, we're loving Justina Ireland, author of the YA epic Dread Nation. Set in post-Reconstruction America, Dread Nation focuses on the life of Jane McKeene, a young Black girl trained with other Black and Native people to kill zombies that have risen at the site of Civil War battlefields.

This book discusses events in King's life that contributed to his development as a writer, such as his early exposure to writing, his early attempts to get published, his relationship with his wife, the death of his mother, and his history of drug and alcohol abuse.

In a nutshell..it's part biography, part collection of tips for the aspiring writer.

I loved it, it was very informative, interesting and occasionally hilarious! ☺

RadicalReader @trioxin_sematary what an absolutely incredible masterpiece of writing nothing better than a combination of tips and biography from the best and most talented and well known horror thriller writer than the King himself 2y

❤️ phenomenally talented author of Children of Blood and Bone Tomi Adeyemi. This fierce debut novel is led by Zélie, a young women who is determined to avenge the death of her mother. The monarchy is relentless in its pursuit to eliminate all magic in Orïsha, but it is the magic alive in Zélie that could save them all. Dark-skinned, clever and impulsive, she carries the weight of the world while on her journey of self discovery. #YA #writercrush

Um, what can I say?! Brutal, tragic, nail-biting, and good men always die. Holly for the win! I‘m glad I was able to listen to the audio version, Will Patton is a fantastic narrator.

You‘re lookin' at one of our top sellers of the month, “My Year of Rest and Relaxation” by Ottessa Moshfegh! Our #writercrush this week has crafted a darkly humorous story about alienation, pharmaceuticals and extreme “self-care”. Looking for a quirky and hilarious read? Try Two Serious Ladies by our #WriterCrush Jane Bowles! Two acquaintances who conform to strict roles in society start making unusual choices that lead them to debauchery! From the outside, it seems as if these women are becoming immoral and possibly mad, but they are actually gaining control of their lives in nuanced ways and living, at last, the way they have always wanted. #wcw https://buff.ly/2E5SAVO
