Clare-Dragonfly This is so sad!!! The vicar is too cruel ☹️ 6mo
BarkingMadRead @Clare-Dragonfly the rules were so barbaric back then, he was just a little baby, surely it couldn‘t matter either way! 6mo

peaKnit I literally just ran across my copy of this, I read it in highschool and it made an impact. 6mo
TheBookHippie @BarkingMadRead still like that here in certain churches 😵‍💫🤦🏻‍♀️ 6mo
TheBookHippie It‘s so so cruel. I remember they used this as a scare tactic to us 😵‍💫😵‍💫 it‘s just so so sad. 6mo
Cuilin Ok this was depressing, Sorrow ful 😢 ugh Alec has a lot to answer for. 6mo
julieclair This is just so sad. And @TheBookHippie , it‘s hard to imagine that still, in our lifetime, some churches would be acting this way. I hate the thought that the church tried to scare you. 😢Churches are supposed to be a place where you can feel loved, welcomed and valued. So disappointing that some of them can get so far off track. 6mo
currentlyreadinginCO Sorrow is a perfect name for all of this! 6mo
TheBookHippie @julieclair It‘s pretty much how it is in Protestant and Catholic Churches here. There‘s a very nice Unitarian and a Presbyterian one. I was raised multifaith and definitely didn‘t pick that for a choice. My father sent me an apology when I turned 30 for sending me to parochial school-🤣😵‍💫🤷🏻‍♀️. It is what it is. 6mo

Lord Byron added an additional stanza that he never published. Wonder why?
🤔🤣😉 Here's the (not-published) last stanza:

Then—fare thee well—Fanny—
Now doubly undone—
To prove false unto many—
As faithless to One—
Thou art past all recalling
Even would I recall—
For the woman once falling
Forever must fall.
[The poem was about Byron's failed affair with Lady Frances Webster.)

TheSpineView He should have published it.🤩😍👍 12mo
dabbe @TheSpineView Maybe with her full name, too! If I remember right, she dumped him (a rare thing for the man who was “mad, bad, and dangerous to know!“) 🤣 12mo

Death is a difficult topic because it is so abstract. It often raises more questions than it answers. It is especially difficult to face the loss of someone we love. These 4 grandchildren try to keep Death awake by plying him w/ coffee. Maybe he‘ll go away and forget about taking their grandma. But Death tells the kiddos a story about the importance of grief and sorrow enhancing our joy and delight. A tender, delicate story w/ lovely illustrations

I was recommended this book by a progressive Christian to help deal with with some hard times I was going through. This is not a progressive book, it is Evangelical and I have serious theological disagreements with Evangelicals. So keep that in mind. Otherwise, there were some real beautiful parts that dealt with grief and pain without pushing it to the side for toxic positivity.
