Thanks @LeahBergen for recommending this fantastic trip through the weird world of 70s and 80s horror books. I think Hendrix made a critical decision for this project: even though there's some attention to why certain themes became popular and publishing industry trends, the crazy plot summaries are the focus. And the audio narrator reminded me of a movie trailer voice for heartwarming family films, which worked really well for some reason 😁

Nute I always enjoy reading your thoughts on books. I guess now I‘m interested in formulaic considerations for 70s and 80s horror books. Weird world stuff!😂 3w
Billypar @Nute Thanks! Yeah, it's funny there were so many books mentioned that I probably wouldn't read but loved hearing about in synopsis form. 3w
LeahBergen The audio narrator! 😂😂 Yes, that does sound somehow fitting. 3w
Billypar @LeahBergen At first I thought it was an intentional thing to be funny, but I think it was just that narrator's style. Which is even better 😃 3w

this was a quick but interesting read 😊 I really enjoyed Hendrix's analysis of various pulp-y paperbacks though I wish parts of the books were organized better (history of horror fiction vs specific themes/recurring topics) and I would also love to hear more of Hendrix's recommendations for specific titles. Still, I enjoyed the analysis of the various time periods and how they influenced many of the books.

uwak @Leftcoastzen absolutely! I enjoyed how much he wanted to get a lot of these lesser-known authors out there. 2mo

aaaaand my next #nightstand book 📚 honestly I just want to marathon Hendrix's stuff asap but my tbr stack is getting out of control 😭 so far this book has been awesome, with Hendrix detailing different cultural aspects from the time period that influenced various authors and I'm especially enjoying his spotlights on the cover artists in addition to the authors.

My library had the 5 Paperbacks from Hell published so far!
#libraryscore

LibrarianRyan Nice. Those are not easy to get. My #screamathon partner had them on her wish list but since I don‘t purchase from Amazon, at the time they were hard to find. And no, I didn‘t spoil anything because I didn‘t end up getting them. 3mo
LeahBergen Awesome! I‘m starting to really like Valancourt Press. 3mo
Aaronlisa I nice. I really liked Hendrix's book except it made me want to hunt some of those paperbacks down. 3mo
Reggie I am peanut butter and jealous right now. 3mo
