Pickpick

This one is tough to rate. The story line is highly probable: a group of people who banded together and were prepared for the economic collapse of the US. This book details how and what they did. It sometimes reads as a field manual rather than fiction. As a practical how-to source, it is very good including an index to various topics covered. He overdid the gun talk for sure. Informative and sobering in light of our current situation. #bookspin

Just started this. Already see our current economic situation and where it could possibly go addressed in the first few pages. It's disconcerting. Let's hope this book is more fiction than prophecy.

Came across this book recommendation on the Patriot Nurse website. I'm not the "prepper" or "survivalist" type per se, but I'm concerned enough about the future to know preparing is a good idea. This book shows survival techniques in a fictional setting. Should be interesting

*Scream!* 😱 I have only just realised that the weekend I am going on a #readingretreat to Gladstone's Library is the weekend of the 24h #readathon. 😲🤯 My kids are going to look at me like I decided to go away on my own for Xmas. How do I make this up to them? Maybe if I buy them loads of books and snacks so they can readathon without me AND we do a family readathon later in the month? 😬

rockpools Oh no! Two readathons might be the only answer. I‘m fairly sure your young readers thrash me every time a readathon comes round. 📚📚📚 5y
Leniverse @RachelO Yes. I think this will cost me a lot of manga. 😅 If I buy them books and snacks and let my 12y/o sign up as a reader in her own right, give their father detailed instructions on how to post and link their mini-challenge entries, AND give them a family readathon with yet more books and snacks at the start of the Easter break, then maybe they'll forgive me. 😬🤣 5y
scripturient We could have a buddy readathon with them: Retreat vs. Home - who‘s in for the win? 😂 5y
Leniverse @scripturient 😂 I‘m afraid to wake their competitive spirit. They‘ve agreed to have two more laidback readathons now. But I guess I can issue a challenge. 😆 5y

My firstborn has just gone off on a 5-day school trip. She's going to have a blast kayaking, zip lining, shooting, fencing, climbing and absailing, and I'm going to have a 5-day anxiety attack. So I'm going to bury every available moment in pure escapism literature. I have Mercedes Lackey, Kelley Armstrong, David Gemmell, and P&P with Zombies. I will get through this week. Deep breaths. Tea. I'll make some tea.

Lola Yes, yes you will. My daughter did a trip abroad for four weeks this summer and I coped in a similar fashion. You'll make it thru, Mama! 7y
CocoReads The first summer my daughter worked in Colorado I was like that. The second summer as well. Never mind that she was 20 and 21. It didn't help when I got phone calls like "we got lost hiking yesterday above the snow line but luckily we stumbled on some back country campers who helped us out" but I survived and you will too and she will have a great experience. Good luck and happy tea drinking! 7y
LauraBeth Hoping the five days go by fast 💕 7y

Leniverse @Lola 4 weeks! 😱 And abroad! 😬 I don't even want to contemplate that. 😂 7y
Leniverse @CocoReads 😆 I should be grateful for the practice I'm getting through this well organised and supervised school trip before she's old enough to off on her own somewhere. 😂 7y
CocoReads I was just happy mine wasn't hiking alone because I know she did some of that as well even though I told her not too. Well supervised is good! 7y
Cinfhen Too bad you couldn't be a chaperone 😀trip sounds fabulous!!! 7y
TrishB Tea, books and you will get there!! Hope she has a fantastic time 😀 7y
Leniverse @Cinfhen I think it's probably healthier for the both of us that she gets to do this without me. 😂 Also, I have a younger child. He'd not be amused to have me go off as well. Although, I might hug him too much this week. 😆 7y
Cinfhen If I ever dared to chaperone a class trip, my kids would have refused to go on the trip 😬😉😀 7y
Leniverse @TrishB She's fairly social and quite adventurous, so I'm sure she'll have a blast. She's never been away more than one night before, but hopefully she'll be too busy to miss us. 7y
Leniverse @Cinfhen 😂 😂 7y
CareBear Will be thinking of you this week! 7y

#recommendsday I bought Emergency for my husband because he's in security and he takes an interest in prepping. The other 3 are for me. 😎 And I bought a book light so I can finally read in bed!
