I was saddened by Molly's feelings about her father, and about how hard it is to live with someone you know is dishonest. All of her most important values -- love, loyalty, integrity -- are being stomped on constantly by this woman and her father just aims for a peaceful life. It's a bit of a Cinderella story except with no way for anyone else to see it if they don't want to. 2mo

julieclair I‘m hoping Roger will come to his senses in the jungles of South America, and realize he has truly loved Molly all along. Then comes home, dumps Cynthia, and convinces Molly of his true love for her. 2mo

willaful @Bookwormjillk I don't think I've seen enough of Cynthia to make that argument, though it won't surprise me if it turns out to be true. Cynthia seems pretty shrewd and it's hard to believe she has no idea Molly is developing feelings for Roger.

The omniscient narrator is generally very kind to Cynthia and I'm not sure if we're supposed to believe it or not. 2mo
