ElizaMarie Mr Gibson is right—- Cynthia needs to be marred off ASAP. She creates too much drama otherwise (edited) 4w
mcctrish @ElizaMarie Mr Henderson better stay on his toes 4w
See All 9 Comments
Clare-Dragonfly Henderson seems like a perfect match for Cynthia. Shallow, pretty, and persistent but not in an asshole way. Now let‘s get them married and out of Molly‘s way! 4w
dabbe @mcctrish @ElizaMarie 🎯😂🎯😂🎯 4w
dabbe @Clare-Dragonfly Time for both of them to exit stage left! 4w
willaful I'm bummed that I was wrong about Roger but I'm sure he'll get there. Cynthia is so obviously not what he thought her! 4w
rubyslippersreads @willaful Cynthia doesn‘t seem like the best wife for an intrepid explorer who will be on another continent for long periods of time. 🤣 4w
Bookwormjillk Catching up and this was definitely a wait? What? chapter. #whiplash 3w

mcctrish Thank god papa knows the truth but the #terriblecs will not accept any condemnation re: bad choices they made or suffer the consequences 1mo
dabbe How I want Roger to find out! 1mo
ElizaMarie And she has rhe audacity to start being upset about what Molly‘s vague explanation to her father! She is the worst! Wonder how Rodger would find out - rumor or through Molly. 1mo

Lcsmcat OK, this is the first time I haven‘t liked Molly. How can you not like blackberries?!?! 😀 2mo
Lcsmcat That said, poor Molly! 2mo

Cuilin Oh sweet poor Molly. 💔 Also a lot can happen in two years!! (edited) 2mo
Bookwormjillk Poor Molly. Even if Cynthia doesn‘t marry him he‘s ruined for her now. 2mo
mcctrish How are we getting out of this?! Argh I can‘t stand #notarealclare and by extension Cynthia 2mo
ElizaMarie “even you must acknowledge he's very plain and awkward; and I like pretty things and pretty people." —- she brutal 2mo
dabbe Cynthia is reminding me more and more of Estella from GREAT EX. And I want to hit Roger over the head to wake him up to what goodness is right in front of him. 😩 2mo
willaful @ElizaMarie Points for honesty I guess? 🙄

I was saddened by Molly's feelings about her father, and about how hard it is to live with someone you know is dishonest. All of her most important values -- love, loyalty, integrity -- are being stomped on constantly by this woman and her father just aims for a peaceful life. It's a bit of a Cinderella story except with no way for anyone else to see it if they don't want to.

julieclair I‘m hoping Roger will come to his senses in the jungles of South America, and realize he has truly loved Molly all along. Then comes home, dumps Cynthia, and convinces Molly of his true love for her. 2mo
rubyslippersreads Cynthia says, “someone else may turn up, and say I‘m engaged to him.” Preston? 2mo
Bookwormjillk @julieclair and inherits all the money 2mo
Bklover @rubyslippersreads Oooh, I hadn‘t thought of that! I‘m wondering if Preston and Cynthia may just deserve each other. (Unless he turns out to be a serial killer!). 2mo
willaful @julieclair He wouldn't though. 🙄 He'd be too honorable to break it off. 2mo
julieclair @willaful Darn. You're right. Cynthia will have to dump him. 2mo
julieclair @Bookwormjillk Yes! The money would make it even more perfect! 2mo
peanutnine @rubyslippersreads @Bklover I feel like Cynthia and Preston have some history, either he proposed and she turned him down or they're secretly engaged or something 1mo

Bookwormjillk The whole Ozzy I let my friend who can't tell the difference between France and Rome take care of the paperwork it's fine thing had me rolling. Poor Roger. 2mo
mcctrish Why is Osborne so dumb? Aimee needs to give her head a shake 2mo

willaful I loved this line: “if this ungenerous though of Osborne's had been set clearly before his conscience, he would have smote his breast and cried 'Mea culpa' with the best of them; it was only that he was too indolent to keep an unassisted conscience.“ 2mo
julieclair I feel like I‘m saying #poormolly in every chapter. I just want to reach through the pages and give her a hug! And give everyone else a good talking to. 2mo
dabbe And the fact that Molly wants Roger to be happy--even at the expense of her happiness-- just gets me. 😩 Harriet sees what a gem she is. I cling to that. 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly OSBORNE. 2mo
Lcsmcat @willaful “unassisted conscience” isa great phrase! 2mo
willaful @dabbe Harriet seems very perceptive, except she seems to accept #NotARealClare at face value... 2mo
ElizaMarie @julieclair and @dabbe Molly is too good for all of them! 2mo
Bklover @dabbe Those are my thoughts exactly. I think Cynthia sees Molly too. Cynthia just seems to be rather broken. 2mo
dabbe @Bklover Agree 💯. 2mo

mcctrish What a gong show! He likes her, she likes him, he‘s married to a French girl and Molly is left out 2mo
Bookwormjillk Poor Molly indeed 2mo

dabbe @mcctrish I see some major emotional explosion coming soon down the Hollingford road! 2mo
willaful Before I was getting Emma vibes, now I'm getting Mansfield Park vibes. 2mo
Bklover Osborne and Roger can be such idiots! Poor Molly! 2mo
Lcsmcat @willaful Very Mansfield Park-like! Except Molly has more spirit than Fanny. 2mo
willaful @Lcsmcat She's no Fanny but she may be just as bad at being in a love-triangle. No idea what to do at all, poor dear. 2mo

Ruthiella Poor Molly indeed! 😢 Is this a love triangle? Does Roger only see Molly as a sister? Also, I feel like the Miss Brownings could have stepped right out of 2mo
Lcsmcat Cynthia is going to hurt a lot of people, I‘m afraid. 2mo

dabbe @Ruthiella Cranford ladies sing this song, doo-dah, doo-dah! 🤣 2mo
dabbe @Lcsmcat 🎯🩵🎯 She seems to enjoy it, too. 2mo
AllDebooks @dabbe 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 2mo
ElizaMarie Molly!? She is “friend (sister) zoned” and I don‘t think Cynthia really likes Rodger—- 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly Oh dear, I sure hope Cynthia isn‘t the secret wife! 2mo
mcctrish @ElizaMarie I do feel so badly for Molly - I‘m not sure she likes likes Roger but he won‘t even talk to her and Cynthia could care less about his rambles 2mo
mcctrish @dabbe a top 10 hit for sure 🎶🎶🎶 2mo
dabbe @AllDebooks 🤩🤣🤗 2mo
dabbe @mcctrish IKR? 🤣🎶🤣 2mo
Bklover I‘m probably mistaken, but I got the impression that Roger was trying to get to Molly but kept getting snatched up by Cynthia. 2mo
Bookwormjillk @ElizaMarie I don‘t think Cynthia likes Roger either. I think she just likes taking what Molly wants. 2mo
willaful @Bookwormjillk I don't think I've seen enough of Cynthia to make that argument, though it won't surprise me if it turns out to be true. Cynthia seems pretty shrewd and it's hard to believe she has no idea Molly is developing feelings for Roger.

The omniscient narrator is generally very kind to Cynthia and I'm not sure if we're supposed to believe it or not.
