thegirlwiththelibrarybag I didn‘t read Pippi until I was an adult but kid me was obsessed with “the new adventures of Pippi Longstocking” movie… watched it so much that I just about wore the VHS out. 14h

ravenlee @thegirlwiththelibrarybag me too! Except it was on Beta 😆. I had a fight with my older brother once when he called it a dubbed movie and I heard “dumb,” and it was the gravest insult imaginable. I flew at him, fists and feet flying, in defense of Pippi‘s honor. 14h

dabbe Oh how I loved Pippi Longstocking! I tried to do a book report on one of the books in 5th grade, but the teacher said I couldn't because it wasn't “on the list.“ And we wonder why kids just might not like reading in school. 😝 10mo

lil1inblue @dabbe I loved Pippi so much, too. I can't believe you couldn't do a book report on her! Isn't the whole point to get kids excited about reading? I was so blessed in the teacher department - almost all of my teachers (elementary all the way through college) went “off list“ for book selections, and we were allowed to, as well. 😍 10mo

Eggs I read Pippi over and over! It was my first chapter book I bought from the paper catalog thingie (Scholastic) before there were bonafide book fairs. 10mo

dabbe @lil1inblue It's at the point now in my district where teachers are not allowed to teach ANYTHING that is not on the approved curriculum list. And even some books that are on the list but labeled “sensitive“--teachers can teach only if they get signed parent approval. I am glad your experience was so rich and freeing. 🧡🍁🤎 10mo

dabbe @Eggs I did Scholastic with my middle school kids! That's how I was able to build a big YA library in my classroom--with the freebies teachers would get. 🤩😘😀 10mo

Finished last night for #ChildrensClassicRead2024 It was fun to reread Pippi, it‘s been decades & the books & movies were something I shared with my dad. As a child I wanted to hang out with Pippi, as an adult, she tired me out! 😉 I need to see if I can find the movies now.
