Sometimes when things feel sideways, it helps to focus on trying to make someone else smile. Worked on my #Litsylove Valentines cards for a Children‘s Hospital today. Thanks to @TieDyeDude for finding this one of four organizations for us. My cards look like the work of a toddler and I‘m totally fine with that 😂

McSweeney‘s #71: Horror Stories is GORGEOUS and triple slipcased. It‘s just a beautiful thing. Stories by M.T. Anderson and Stephen Graham Jones (among many others) were almost secondary, if I‘m honest. ❤️🎃🎃🎃❤️

Some great essays and then some not so great ones. Feels kinda cozy when it‘s good, but Chabon sometimes seems to be pitching pearls from a lofty ivory tower and these are the “gimme a break” moments in the read.

Half a Life: A Memoir | Darin Strauss

so-so

When the author was 18 he killed a girl from his high school in a car accident.It was not his fault,he was neither drunk nor driving recklessly,it was bad luck.This book is his account of “half a life” lived with guilt&he tries to be honest&vulnerable.Even though he writes with sincerity,I couldn‘t connect with him,with what happened&neither with the victim.I‘m not sure if it‘s the writing or because of the trauma, but it feels cold&disconnected.
