Xiang only has a golden pendant left from her father. When she discovers the pendant actually holds clues to the fabled lost treasure of Zheng Yi Sao, she discovers what she is truly capable of.

This had a rather slow start, but once the story got going, it really got going. I loved the historical Chinese setting, Xiang was a charming MC, and the romance was very sweet. It had found family, pirates, adventure, and surprise twists! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

I am really struggling with the last square! #lgbtqbookbingo #lgbtq2023

@kenyazero

willaful I had that for a bingo a few years ago and also had trouble -- all the books I could find were very distressing! Finally went with Pantomime. Annoyingly, I've now read the whole series and have nothing left.

Hey, would you pick a book for me? I still need that square.

Kenyazero I was having trouble with that one too! Not as much intersex rep out there. I tried to tap into what people on Storygraph marked for that category, but most thought trans was intersex 😬 by coincidence (without looking for it), I found and read an advice/autobiography-type manga by an intersex man called At 30 I Realized I Had No Gender. 3mo
BookmarkTavern Seanan McGuire‘s sixth Wayward Children book has an intersex MC if you haven‘t read that! 3mo

PuddleJumper @willaful I haven't heard of that one, I'll check it out. The one I saw was Unkindness of Ghosts but I'm not sure about it 3mo
PuddleJumper @Kenyazero It's a tricky square! I'll check that one out, thanks! 3mo
PuddleJumper @BookmarkTavern Thanks! I've not read any of that series. Do I need to read it in order? 3mo
BookmarkTavern Not this one! About half of them are fairly stand alone. But they‘re also pretty short novellas. If I remember correctly, Seanan McGuire was able to get an intersex narrator to do the audiobook, if you like audiobooks! 3mo
PuddleJumper @BookmarkTavern that's amazing! I'll see if I can get it from the library 3mo
Kenyazero @BookmarkTavern my Storygraph just reminded me I have this in my TBR a few minutes before I saw your reply to this thread. Guess it's time to dust that one off! 🤔 3mo

Soft pick.

#LGBTQBookBingo and Cottage Read #5

The first book by a woman from Equatorial Guinea translated into English and it‘s a queer book!

Was a little stilted and hard to connect at times, though the struggle to be accepted is worldwide. I wish we got more of her life after the book ended.

The afterword was great and am important read about the use of corrective rape when lesbian women are outed. Lots of trigger warnings for this one

A writer really coming into their own! Emezi tells us the story of the life and death of Vivek Oji. Beautifully told and rich language you can sink your teeth into; I loved this. This should be on your TBR if you like literary fiction.

I‘ve read Freshwater and You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty and this was way better, more fully developed, than the other two. I‘ll definitely be reading anything else they write!

Kenyazero I read this recently and couldn't decide how to describe it or how I felt about it (I usually avoid literary fiction because it's always stressful and sad), so I really enjoyed reading your review! 1w

The stories of Greek mythology you know and love, but rewoven through a kaleidoscope of genres and authors.

An absolute goddamned delight. Not a single miss in these stories for me. Every author I knew delivered at the top of their form, and a bunch of new authors for me to check out. POVs changed, story twists unraveled, settings launched across the stars, tragedies averted. I absolutely adored this. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

Nona wants to celebrate her 6 month birthday with her family, her gang, & every dog she‘s ever met. So if necromancers, a suspicious convoy, & a terrorism group fighting against God could stop, that‘d be great.

I loved this as much as I thought I would, but it really felt like it was stretched into a novel. Lots of world building, amazing characters, Noodles, questions answered, but also a cliff hanger that‘s making me gnash my teeth. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Blue. Red. Two opposing operatives. A war across time itself. Is anything more important than winning?

I adored everything about this. The writing was lyrical and poetic. This was the first time I felt the enemies to lovers trope actually worked for me. An unexpected ending. The evolution of the salutations!

This whole thing felt like a dream. I desperately want to listen to the audiobook now. & I have to look up more of El-Mohtar. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

TheBookgeekFrau Love your glass, right up my alley!! 😍 6mo

Kenyazero I liked this weird book when I read it, and agree that enemies to lovers actually really worked here! Definitely give the audio a listen, it flows really well. 6mo

Meant to post this last week, but I'm just 5 books away from filling out the #lgbtqbookbingo. I think I'll manage at least 2 more spots this month.

@kenyazero

Kenyazero Excellent progress! I've got a few spots left to fill in (terrible at posting my own progress), and am definitely drawing reading inspiration from other people's boards. 6mo
