This is a dark read about the horror of becoming a woman. Teenage girls doing games , “which are only fun when they‘re dangerous”, their teacher being a frightened woman, traumatized and afraid of her students. Everyone is terrified and fascinated by eachother. I don‘t it‘s a spoiler to say this couldn‘t end well. Not my kind of book, but intriguing enough to finish it, this mix of horror and psychological drama. Set in #Ecuador

Hooked_on_books I just started this one today. It‘s a little confusing, frankly. But I‘m not far in. I‘ll finish it because it‘s on the National Book Awards shortlist for translated literature and I‘m reading the whole list (or trying to). If it continues the way the first couple of chapters are going, I‘m probably not going to like it much. 13mo

BarbaraBB @Hooked_on_books I bought it because of the National book award too, otherwise I wouldn‘t I think. Some chapters are great, some not so. The ending is out of control imo. 13mo

Addison_Reads @Hooked_on_books This book was confusing for me, and as an audiobook I really had a hard time keeping track of things. @BarbaraBB I definitely agree that the ending was just completely off the rails. 13mo

Hooked_on_books @Addison_Reads I went back and restarted it after the first three chapters, really focusing on what the heck was going on. After that I wasn‘t confused. But I was not a fan. I felt like the long essay from Anneliese didn‘t feel like something a student would truly submit in places. 13mo

I don't exactly know how I feel about this book. There were definitely moments that caused me to cringe with uncomfort. I am intrigued enought to move on to book 2.

KateReadsYA @BooksNBowls I did for about $10-20 each. I was like geez come on now!!!! Haha I might end up buying the first from their but not sure yet as Amazon always has amazing sales. I found book 3 at my local library sell for $4 today in brand new condition I was SO EXCITED 🤗 1y
