As a lifelong fan of Robin Williams, I needed this book.

This book serves to remind the reader of the wonderful, loving man Robin Williams was. He had his problems, he had his hang ups, and all of that is okay. He was a ray of sunshine, and it‘s taken me a long time to be able to even watch his movies again, because they just remind me of how missed he is (and that‘s just by his fans - his family has us all surpassed).

GingerAntics All the details and things I never knew about Robin. This book made me laugh, it made me cry, it reminded me how much I loved him. There is so much about this book to love. The ending was and wasn‘t what I expected. I didn‘t know I was going to dislike his third wife and somehow I never knew about the final coroner‘s report. 5y

GingerAntics I loved Robin Williams growing up. I loved most (if not all) of his roles, even the ones the critics hated. He may be why I actually decided not to listen to critics anymore. I love Robin Williams today. He did what we all should hope to do with our lives, leave people just a little happier, just a little better than we found them. Robin at Juilliard, rehearsing for a production of A Midsummer Night‘s Dream.
Why do I feel like he‘s a sort of perpetual Puck (aptly, also named Robin)? I can‘t imagine how amazing it would have been to see him do Shakespeare. It would have been brilliant!!!

GingerAntics @Graywacke I think a lot of people said that was the movie where Robin was most Robin (at least up to that point). I really need to see that movie. He did a lot of Shakespeare, which is really interesting. 5y

Graywacke @GingerAntics hmm. He is calm in it, and I always imagine him animated. But he is really good in the film. My daughter said she watched it because it was on Netflex, she was bored and she wanted to know how terrible it was - and then really enjoyed it!! So she got us all to watch it with her recently. 5y

readinginthedark Definitely watch it! I love almost all of Robin's movies, but Dead Poets' Society will always hold a special place in my heart. If I remember correctly, it's based on a book, but don't quote me on that. 5y

GingerAntics @readinginthedark the movie was first and then they made it a book. I already checked on that. I checked Netflix and they have Good Will Hunting now (another of my favorites of his) but no more dead poets society. Hulu doesn‘t have it either. I definitely need to see this thing. May have to go to Vudu at the end of the month. 5y

readinginthedark Interesting! I always find books after movies to be strange. It doesn't translate well that way, I feel, but I haven't read this one, so 🤷‍♀️ 5y

GingerAntics @readinginthedark for some reason is does feel like it should be a movie based on a book. I went looking, but the only thing I found was the novelisation. It did have good ratings in Apple Books, though. Maybe they‘ve done a fairly good job on it, then. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 5y

GingerAntics @jenniferajanes it‘s even more complicated than Parkinson‘s. He really wasn‘t in his right mind. Poor guy. His third wife really cut him off from a lot of his family and friends, though, too, so none of the, had a clue he‘d been diagnosed with Parkinson‘s until after his death. I am not a fan of his third wife after reading this. 5y

Freespirit I actually didn‘t realise he‘d been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. 5y

GingerAntics @Freespirit most people aren‘t. There were conspiracy theories when he died, of course. Then the coroner‘s report came out a few months later. It was only diagnosed after his death and it didn‘t really make headlines. It wasn‘t Parkinson‘s at all. It was actually worse because it increased the risk for suicide in a way Parkinson‘s did/does not. (edited) 5y

Oh my god, this explains everything...especially the ending. Poor guy.
I feel like his third wife failed him. She sent him to rehab for his Parkinson‘s. WTF it‘s not am addiction. Then she didn‘t want any of his friends to know what was going on with him and had him hang out with her friends that he didn‘t know. What? His friends all felt like they should have been there for him.

GingerAntics @Freespirit right? Apparently he kept asking his buddy Billy Crystal “when did Mohammad Ali get bad, when did he stop talking.” He was sizing up his situation. He saw Ali go. I think he was watching Michael Fox slowly go, and he didn‘t want that for himself or his family. I thought the same thing when I read this, then I read about the coroner‘s report and it all made even more sense. 5y

I love this BTS look at Genie from Aladdin. I‘m trying to remember, but I think this was one of my first introductions to Robin Williams. I used to repeat all of Genie‘s jokes and I‘d sing all of Genie and Aladdin‘s songs (I didn‘t like the girl songs lol). A friend of mine and I would also sing “A Whole New World” together when it came up in the movie.

readinginthedark It's interesting how many actors and actresses suffer from mental health issues and anxieties like this. You don't realize it until you read a memoir or biography, I guess. 5y

GingerAntics @readinginthedark I think maybe they become actors/actresses because they enjoy not being themselves for a while, and it turns out their good at it. In his case, I think we got a glimpse when headlines came shooting out that he‘d hanged himself. It was shocking because this guy that made the whole world happy didn‘t get any of that happiness for himself. I didn‘t know it was as deep seated as that. 5y
