Here, a pup can run!

I think this book would be good as a lesson to children about removing themselves from a situation that can cause them to become overwhelmed, Although its not always possible to go the beach there are ways to find a place that helps find each persons calm

This story was a feel good book about a dachshund who takes a break from the city to explore the beach, this story is about finding a place to relax and unwind

“A slow escape“

This book displayed how we can often times become overwhelmed with life, but shows us that when this happens, we have outlets we can go to (in the dog's case the ocean) in order to reclaim our thoughts and decompress. The book teaches an important message to children about how helpful these outlets can be.

Published in 2022, receiving the Caldecott award. This book tells the story of a dog who lived in bustling NYC. One day when running errands with its owner, the dog became overwhelmed with the heat and the commotion of the city. Refusing to move any further, the owner scooped up the dog and took him to an island where it was much calmer. They returned home that night to find the city calming down, as were they after a very exciting day.

blurb

This would be a good book to read in a classroom near the end of the school year when students are feeling overwhelmed and do not want to continue to do work. Just like the dog, the students can push through to get to the best part of the year (or for the dog, the day, being on the boat).

Hot Dog, 2022. Caldecott Medal Winner. This story is about a dog who lives in a big city. The dog is overwhelmed by the heat and the amount of people in the city. The dog wants to just sit down and not move. The dog goes about the rest of its day on a boat and enjoys the air blowing in its face.

This isn‘t my favorite story with a road trip, but it is the one I read most recently! It‘s also quite a road trip! The MC had been on a long trip in her RV to Colorado and New Mexico, and she can‘t wait to get home to Alaska. Not so fast! Her harebrained acquaintance calls from Hawaii needing her help, so off she goes again.

As a travelogue this was very interesting. As a mystery novel, it was … fine.

JoyBlue Will I likely enjoy this without having read the first two in the series? [My library doesn't have the first two in audio, but I was able to pick this one up without wait.] Have you read The Mostly True Story of Tanner & Louise? That's a good road trip story. 9mo
Susanita @JoyBlue I hadn‘t read the first two books either. She references the events, but I didn‘t have the feeling that I was missing something. Tanner and Louise sounds interesting. 9mo
JoyBlue @Susanita Thanks so much! Let me know if you read T&L and how you feel about it. Even my partner, who rarely used to read fiction, liked it a lot. [He had to read it because I kept reacting to it in his presence.] He's been broadening his reading quite a bit in the last couple of years. 😉 9mo
