Playing catch-up on some reviews for March. Finished this one on St Patrick‘s Day with our annual Irish red ale, so it seemed pretty fitting. This is the harrowing tale of life inside a Dublin maternity ward in 2018. We are smack in the midst of the Spanish flu pandemic, World War I, and the Irish Uprising. It all seemed eerily familiar and often times hit way too close to reality for our lives in 2020. It is also feels very personal to anyone ⬇️

LaraReads serving in the medical community. The price that they each pay every day & the commitment it takes to survive in such a difficult field. Nurse Power represents the best and it is easy to feel connected to her pain & perseverance. #booked2021 #covidheros 3y

Cinfhen Thanks for sharing the link 🎉💖Yay on completing first quarter #Booked21 3y
Cinfhen Tagged book sounds emotionally devastating/ did you feel it was too soon to read this?? 3y
JennyM @Cinfhen it was very difficult to read especially with all my family being in the UK and being so worried for them. So although it was a beautifully written and honest account, it was probably not the best time to read it. I had a few weird dreams as a result. 3y
Cinfhen I can imagine what this book would do to my emotional state 😭 3y
valeriegeary Excellent. Again...I am behind on this one. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I can read 2 books by the end of March I think. Plenty of time. 3y
valeriegeary Oh! Actually.... Now that I went and looked at the form and see you can check boxes through all seasons...I am not behind! Whoo hoo! 🙌🏻 3y

A Duty to the Dead | Charles Todd

First book of 2021, yay! First book in a series and I loved it, crap!

Bess, a WWI nurse, breaks her arm escaping the sinking Britannic. During her medical leave, she sets out to do her duty and relay a message for a soldier who died on an earlier voyage. The family doesn‘t think the message has any significance, but Bess believes it does. Soon Bess finds herself searching for clues regarding the family‘s secrets and a 14 year-old murder. ⬇️

Bookzombie I love that Bess is independent, strong and capable. I also really liked her father as well as some of the other secondary characters.
This fits prompt number 4 #COVIDHEROS: doctor or nurse MC for #Booked2021

TheAromaofBooks I read this series at the end of 2019 and loved them. 3y
Bookzombie @TheAromaofBooks I‘m looking forward to the rest of the series. I really like Bess. 3y
TheAromaofBooks I did, too. I felt like she was a good balance between being a strong character without feeling like she was just a 2000s woman plopped into WWI, if that makes sense. 3y
Bookzombie It does make sense. 🙂 3y
