"I almost wish we were butterflies and liv'd but three summer days - three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain."
- John Keats to Fanny Brawne

While reading some of Keats' poetry this morning, I was visited by these four butterflies: Speckled Wood (top left); two mating Gatekeepers (top right: I think they were more focused on each other!); and a Large White. And some water lilies ???

Happy #IndependenceDay! 🗽 🇺🇸 🎆

Why not celebrate the USA by reading the words of a great American?

Check out 𝑳𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒍 by Anton Szandor LaVey, a collection of LaVey's best letters and responses from his 1970s advice column. 😈

It seemed for a time that everyone on Litsy was reading this book. I‘m finally getting to it. Such a sweet read. The NY author begins writing to a bookstore in England in order to find rare secondhand books at a good price. She ends up becoming very fond of the employees, sending them packages of food that are unavailable to them during wartime and staying in touch with the employees and their families for years. It‘s a quick and touching read.

BooksandCoffee4Me I‘ve seen it and after reading your post, I know I need to read this. 7mo

What an absolutely lovely little book! I‘m not crying —YOU‘RE crying.

This collection of letters between an American scriptwriter and the staff of a British bookstore in London restores my faith in humanity and confirms my belief that book people are the best people.

Listen to the audiobook —the narrators are delightful.

Ruthiella This book! It‘s just beautiful. ❤️😢 7mo

A captivating anthology that brings together an extraordinary collection of correspondence from across history, culture, and human experience. Originally stemming from the popular website of the same name, this book compiles letters that are poignant, humorous, enlightening, and sometimes heartbreaking—each offering a unique glimpse into the minds of their writers.

BooksandCoffee4Me Have you read The Only Thing That Counts, the letters between Hemingway and his editor, Maxwell Perkins? These letters share insights into Hemingway -- the real, unheroic, determined, obstinate, fiery, pensive, colliegial Hemingway; of course, the wisdom, almost father-like attention, and expertise of Perkins and discussions regarding F Scott Fitzgerald add to the depth and enjoyment of reading this book. 8mo

BooksandCoffee4Me My husband and I were teachers at the same high school when we met and started dating. To avoid awkwardness, we didn‘t let our relationship be known, but he would put a handwritten note in my teacher‘s mailbox every morning 😊❤️ 10mo

#FeelinTheLove Day 10: This one is Ludwig Van Beethoven‘s letter to his Immortal Beloved – who this is remains a mystery until now. This is a fascinating book that contains amorous and heartfelt #Loveletters of famous people: from Vita Sackville-West and Viriginia Woolf to Franz Kafka‘s letter to Felice Bauer.
