This was a fascinating look at the poisons, featured in many of her novels. It's quite detailed so was a bit heavy at times but I loved all the references. It's careful not to issue too many spoilers but I've read most so it didn't worry me, it just sparked a need to re-read the books. 4*

Sat in my car in the chilly Norfolk sunshine waiting for my daughter to finish getting some more time in for #JoyousJanuary readathon. Its not been a lot of reading but two books finished so far. Tagged above I started today after a visit to our brilliant library.

Mitch I enjoyed this one! 3mo
kezzlou85 @Mitch I'm looking forward to it. 3mo
Andrew65 Well done 👏👏👏 It has been a cold week 🥶 3mo
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 it really has. No snow here though. Now meant to turn mild again. 3mo

Chemist Kathryn Harkup looks into the different poisons Agatha Christie used in her books; how they work, are there any antidotes, real life cases and how they work in the selected books.

The chemistry in is this went over my head, but I still found this very interesting. Christie took the medical dispensary exam during WWI so she knows her poisons.

Harkup is very aware of spoilers so where she spoils the murder she will let you know.

I liked this well enough and Flavia is a great character, if a little irritating and full of herself. I do like how confident she is. Parts of the story explaining stamps were a little boring, and there was one murder that I never understood the motive for. I‘ll definitely read more in this series. #audiowalk

Ruthiella I definitely read this series for the characters, not the plots! I loved Flavia, she is pretty insufferable, but she‘s also quite vulnerable at times, particularly in how her sisters treat her. 5mo
lauraisntwilder I have one more of this series left to read. I had picked up the first three used, so I kept going even though I didn't love the first one. They do get better! Either that, or I just came to love the characters anyway. Hard to say, but it's worth continuing. 5mo
KathyWheeler @Ruthiella The way all the sisters treat each other just gets to me! I would never do something to my sisters that would cause them actual pain. 5mo

KathyWheeler @lauraisntwilder I wish the audio wasn‘t exclusive to Audible. I liked the first one enough to trust that they‘ll get better. 5mo
lauraisntwilder @KathyWheeler Oh, strange! I've listened to a couple of them in audio from libro.fm. 5mo
KathyWheeler @lauraisntwilder I will have to check libro.fm. I‘ve never used it before but I think I remember setting up an account. 5mo

Mehso-so

In 1856, university student William Perkin was experimenting and happened to discover the first reliable mauve dye (at a time when chemistry was thought to be pretty worthless). This book tells his story, starting strong and interesting but not maintaining. I was skimming by the end and think this would have been a better long form article. There‘s not enough material for a book.

Simona Someone is in very relaxed mood 😁 5mo

A little science-y but SUPER interesting and a book I can't wait to (jokingly) tell people is one of my most-used reference manuals
