A #bookmailhorror today! I opened a book package, and it was FILLED with larvae and hatched ants!!! I dropped the whole thing in shock and then raced it out the door! 😳😳😳😱😱😱 All creatures deserve their place in the ecosystem, but not in my #bookmail! The image shows only a FEW of them!

Louise @LeahBergen It was from an alternate seller on Amazon. @Soubhiville The book, thankfully, was wrapped in plastic. I had to wipe off the larvae to get it out of the plastic, but the book is okay. Ugh! I keep feeling like something is crawling on me! 7y

Louise UPDATE: I have just discovered that ant larvae are a delicacy in Central Mexico, like "insect caviar"! They fry them in butter! Apparently, the Aztecs enjoyed them too. Not my kind of gourmet, but to each his/her own! ? 7y

Louise @Lwiesman I have contacted the seller to let them know. I'll give them a chance to respond before posting feedback on Amazon. They look like a scholarly used bookshop in Harrisburg, PA, and have 98% positive feedback thus far. I'm guessing they'll be horrified to hear this happened. I wouldn't want to wreck their feedback record if it's just one unfortunate incident. (edited) 7y

Louise Thank you for your commiserations, everyone! When I went outside later to check on the box, the ants had all gone away and taken their larvae with them! I guess this means a new ant colony will start up in the woods outside.
