This title pretty much sums up this perfectly! I‘ve read Phoebe‘s second book but still need to read her first. I don‘t remember heavy topics in her other (tagged) but this one covered 2020 and you know what that means — pandemic and #BLM movement. But still lots to laugh about here. She always delivers and I lovvvvee her tangents, abbreviations, and hashtags. Excellent narration for the #audiobook.
Raw, searing, and important. Great show of emotions. I picture the actress, Marsha Stephanie Blake as the mom. What can be said that hasn‘t been said before? There is no room for racism, intolerance, and injustice towards people of colour. We can do better, we must do better. #BLM
The storyline felt very real. It depicted the racism and injustice black people face every day in a very nuanced way. It did a fantastic job highlighting the internal struggle of deciding whether or not to speak out. Taking a stand, or in this case, kneeling, has both positive and negative consequences, and this book dove right into the complexity of it all.

It actually has a title: Clap Back. The author is known as well: Nalo Hopkinson. Yeah, that Nalo Hopkinson. Currently free to Prime Readers—Book 5 of 6 in Black Stars.
Review: Like a Toni Morrison book set in the future, which is still our past and unfortunately our present. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

When I was marching in the Women‘s March, we went by a small group of Black women on a corner with a bullhorn asking why these thousands of mostly white women weren‘t at the #BLM March a few months previously. They had an excellent point. And my first reaction, to yell back “hey, I was there too!” completely missed the mark, an example of when my impact did not match my intent. I sat with that moment for a while, and did some unpacking and ⬇️
This book takes a historical look at the National Memorial African Bookstore and what it meant to the people who frequented it. This is a delightful read that really captures the heart of activism in this space. #CivilRightsMovement #BLM #AmericanHistory #nonfiction #PictureBook #BookStore
