Please Don't Sit on My Bed in Your Outside Clothes
Please Don't Sit on My Bed in Your Outside Clothes: Essays | Phoebe Robinson
New York Times bestselling author, comedian, actress, and producer Phoebe Robinson is back with a new essay collection that is equal parts thoughtful, hilarious, and sharp about human connection, race, hair, travel, dating, black excellence, and more. Written in Phoebe's unforgettable voice and with her unparalleled wit, Robinson's latest collection, laced with spot-on pop culture references, takes on a wide range of topics. From the values she learned from her parents (including, but not limited to, advice on not bringing outside germs onto your clean bed) to her and her boyfriend, lovingly known as British Baekoff, deciding to have a child-free union, to the way the Black Lives Matter movement took center stage in America, and, finally, the continual struggle to love her 4C hair, each essay is packed with humor and humanity. By turns insightful, laugh-out-loud funny, and heartfelt, Please Don't Sit On My Bed In Your Outside Clothes is not only a brilliant look at our current cultural moment, but a collection that will stay with you for years to come.

I just really love Phoebe. She reads her own books and they are great.

TracyReadsBooks Love the title—which also happens to be one of the rules in our home! 😂 5mo
Karkar @TracyReadsBooks I never really thought about it much until she was talking about it. Now I am like ewwwwww do not do that 5mo

This title pretty much sums up this perfectly! I‘ve read Phoebe‘s second book but still need to read her first. I don‘t remember heavy topics in her other (tagged) but this one covered 2020 and you know what that means — pandemic and #BLM movement. But still lots to laugh about here. She always delivers and I lovvvvee her tangents, abbreviations, and hashtags. Excellent narration for the #audiobook.

ChaoticMissAdventures I don't remember which book it was in but her obsession with Bono cracks me up!! She is hilarious and her audios are perfect - laughing out loud in public with them perfect 😂 5mo
Megabooks She‘s a funny lady for sure! 5mo

This was an #audiolisten and also my favorite of her books so far. Think she has definitely grown as a writer and person and found her voice. Look forward to seeing what she does next.

Entertaining and thought provoking, just like her last collection. The essay on self care is so on point- definitely my favorite in this book.

BarbaraTheBibliophage That essay sounds spot on! 7mo

I liked this. Very conversational. Some essays where stronger than others, but overall enjoyed the candid and funny and informative views on very prescient issues

Funny, crass. honest. I love her perspective and sense of humor and how openly she calls out white women to do better. #BookspinBingo #BFC22 #audiowalking @TheAromaofBooks @wanderinglynn

I‘ve enjoyed all of Phoebe Robinson‘s books, and this is no exception. I appreciate her balance of discussing important topics with good content while keeping it funny at the same time. I especially appreciated her essay about running your own business and her brief mentions of her parents. Definitely recommend!

I love Phoebe. 1. She‘s from Ohio, like me. 2. She‘s hilarious 3. I also don‘t sit on my bed with my outside clothes. I just can‘t imagine going to the movies and sitting there and then laying in my bed in the same clothes. #eww #ocdmaybe

I listened to this book read by the author, which of course is the way to go! These are very current essays (this is her third book in four years after all!) Including some pandemic related topics. ↘️

ReadingEnvy One highlight is an examination of being a Black and Female boss, a topic she struggled to find much about when she became one herself (and with her new production company and publishing imprint, she is arguably killing it!) One of the later essays continues her examination of her experience with her hair, which was the topic of a previous book. 9mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ok, Phoebe, let‘s hang out already! I. So. Wish. She‘s such a funny storyteller and incredibly honest in her weirdness. Makes me feel better about my idiosyncrasies. These essays cover a wide variety. Very relatable and often educational. Still trying to wrap my head around outside vs inside clothes. 😂 If you haven‘t listened to her books yet, you‘re missing out!

Just finished this month's #bookspin pick! I liked this book, but not as much as her previous books. I'm not sure if it's because it was more serious/less funny, or because I was just annoyed by some of her hot takes! Still, it's a good listen, especially if you're a fan.

I always have fun laughing with Phoebe! She‘s a great comedy writer, and I love her stanning U2, calling her boyfriend British Bake-Off, and her explanations of her weird abbreviations. Imagine spending the afternoon with your funniest friend. Plus her narration is 🔥! That said, none of this particularly sticks with me despite really enjoying myself in the moment. Overall definitely worth a #BorrowNotBuy!

Megabooks @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB I‘ve had a stressful night. I‘ve learned that Molly is very afraid of skunks, and there is one in our neighborhood right now. (My friend that grew up where she was found said once, “you can tell it‘s union county when you start to smell the skunk.”) I don‘t know if she got sprayed at one point or got in a fight, but it has been SO HARD to get her settled. She was just running window to window. I‘ll write back tomorrow. 💜💜 (edited) 12mo
Cinfhen Poor Molly 😔you really are like a mom with a newborn/ hope you have a restful night 12mo
Megabooks @Cinfhen I think she‘ll get adjusted to indoor life, but it‘s a different set of issues than a new younger dog but no less challenging IMO. She brings me such joy that it is all worth it!! 12mo

britt_brooke @Megabooks It really is easier to crank out negative reviews. 😂😅 I‘m finally caught up for the first time in a couple of months. I keep getting behind 3-4 books and it hurts my brain. Hope your reviewer‘s block lifts soon! 🤞🏼I know it‘s frustrating. (edited) 12mo
