I‘m still not quite sure what to make of this, but it was fun! The subtitle is “A Xianxia Cultivation Novel”—a genre I had zero familiarity with. I could‘ve used a little genre primer before reading; I felt like I‘d stumbled into a world in which I was out of my depth. Which, I suppose, is appropriate for the premise here: a Canadian guy finds himself in a Chinese-inspired fantasy world, in the body of a Disciple of the Cloudy Sword Sect ⤵️

BarbaraJean (Cont‘d)…and decides he‘d rather be a farmer than a cultivator. The writing (and editing) was a bit unpolished at times, which made sense when I realized it was a niche genre book originally published as a web series. It‘s up to 5 published novels at this point, and I‘m interested in checking out the next book to see how the author refines his writing as the series progresses. ⤵️ (edited) 1d
BarbaraJean (Cont‘d) Overall, this is hilarious and often ridiculous, but also earnest and sweet. (Just the type of fun and cozy fantasy my book group needed after reading The Future of Another Timeline last month.) (edited) 1d

Somehow the adventures in this book were much more high-stakes than usual, and the storytelling was a bit more solid. We got an excellent look into Reiko's past, Nyanko Sensei's motivations, and Natsume's relationship with his foster family. #Manga

Another delightful set of adventures. Always fun to have returning side characters. The arm reaching through the ceiling definitely made me laugh but I would probably panic if that happened to me 😆 #Manga

It took me a bit to get used to the episodic chapters from this series being serialized in a magazine first. This was another adventurous volume and I enjoyed the yokai and human friends Natsume meets along the way. It was very fun seeing him meet Hinoe. #Manga

Bklover You‘d think with all that extra coming in from the truck drivers Mae could give the guy a loaf of bread. I know she was ok with the boys, but I still wouldn‘t call her generous. Thank goodness Al is there. Does anyone else think A-I when they see the name Al? Every time. 6d
Bklover Oh, and if you didn‘t know- IITYWYBAD is “ If I tell you will you buy another drink”. I didn‘t know. 6d

BarbaraJean After all that with the bread, then the boys and the candy! 🥹 @Bklover I‘m with you on the name “Al.” Every single time! I used A-I (not Al) to look up the acronym because I had no idea. 😆 6d
Bookwormjillk @Bklover yes on the AI 6d
SamAnne My favorite chapter so far! 6d
TheAromaofBooks Despite Mae being kind of stingy with the bread, this chapter overall felt like a look on the more hopeful side of things - I loved the way the truckers covered all the expenses when they left. 6d
lil1inblue @SamAnne Mine too! Also, based on past interactions with truckers at vatious jobs, I can confirm that they're so kind. 6d

An old(er) man yaoi. My first reading about older couples. It was bit dark, auite realistic and all in all very lovable.

Mehso-so

The first volume of a LGBT manga premised around traveling around the world. Laid-back (and always hungry) Mitsuki and uptight overplanner Asahi are traveling together. Asahi is figuring himself and his life out, and bits of the romance seemed juvenile.

Loved the drawings of the sites, but really wish there was a list or captions to say what some of them were (to put on the list if I visit!). Enjoyed the snacks, especially in Georgia.

Cute.

Putting all the books I want to read/finish reading by the end of the year in one place was probably a mistake. 😜 This is a lot! I do plan on listening to the audiobook for several of them (and switching to audio for a couple that I can't get motivated to finish), so that will help.

Another fun continuation of this story. I am enjoying seeing the characters slowly grow through their relationships. I wish we saw a little more growth through their music like we did in the first two volumes, but that's my only tiff. #LGBTQIA #Manga

Kenyazero Used for #GottaCatchEmAll Pikipek: a band or musical group @PuddleJumper ; and #OwlHouseReadathon Raine: a musical character. 4w
