I feel like I have too many books on the go as it is, but since it‘s time for the #NanreathNovel buddy read I‘m going ahead and starting this one anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

🤞🏻This one works better for me than #RhidianRead did, since I still haven‘t made it past part one!

Librarybelle Hope it does too for you! So far, I‘m liking it much more than The Aftermath. 4mo
CouronneDhiver Ha! I think it‘s time to call that last one a bail. 😂 Onward and upward! 4mo

This was a so-so for me almost a pan. I just did not connect with any of the characters except one (and he unfortunately didn‘t have a happy ending). The only thing that saved this from being a pan was the descriptions of Hamburg. #Rhidianread

Mollyanna Poor Barker! He was the only one I liked! 😢 4mo
Librarybelle Yes, Barker! That was a very sad scene! Thanks for joining us...this was just a so-so for me too. 4mo
CouronneDhiver Sorry this one wasn‘t for you... but thanks for joining in! 4mo
Mollyanna @Librarybelle @CouronneDhiver Thanks for hosting these buddy reads ladies. I am truly enjoying them and am reading books that I may never have chooses on my own. 4mo

Finished...and I‘m left with a lot of unanswered questions. It seems like the ending came too rushed; I was hoping for more. A unique look at World War II‘s aftermath in Germany, from various perspectives. But, still lacking in something. A few weeks late, but finally completed #RhidianRead ! #Deweys24HourReadathon

Here‘s the thing - I could and did put this down for long periods of time with no real care as to how it all ended. I‘m glad I finished it, but I don‘t feel like it‘s a book I‘ll talk about or keep coming back to. Don‘t you hate it when a book has such promise but it all evaporates in a cloud of totally forgetful?

Somehow I missed posting a wrap-up post for #RhidianRead ! I‘m still reading, and I know a few of you were still waiting for a copy, so please feel free to share your thoughts when you have a chance to read this!

This was the first #buddyread @CouronneDhiver and I put up for a vote, and I think that worked out well! We‘re thinking about our next read, so stay tuned for that. If you‘re up for the next one, let us know! Thanks everyone!

Mollyanna I‘m still reading. This is an interesting book about a time frame I haven‘t read a lot of HF about. Looking forward to the next read! 5mo
Librarybelle @Mollyanna 👍🙂❤️ 5mo
Crazeedi I enjoyed!! 5mo

Melissa_J Still on section one and making absolutely zero progress. I don‘t dislike it, but I‘m not really in the mood for it at the moment. 5mo
Pamwurtzler I‘m STILL waiting on my copy, but I‘m up for next time too! 5mo
Librarybelle Great, @Crazeedi ! 🙂 5mo
Librarybelle @Melissa_J That has definitely happened with me with some books. 5mo
Librarybelle @Pamwurtzler 👍 And, hope you get a copy of The Aftermath soon! 5mo
MellieAntoinette I‘m about halfway through this one. I really didn‘t want to like it, but goodness does it have writing appeal! 5mo

I feel like I shouldn't say that I enjoyed this story because of all of the sad, dark things it involved, but I enjoyed reading it. I love when an author portrays characters as being so very human. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thanks for hosting the #RhidianRead #BuddyRead @Librarybelle and @CouronneDhiver !

CouronneDhiver Yay! I get it ... liked this one a lot too. 👍🏽 I‘m so glad you participated. 5mo

Well, finally. Look what arrived in the mail today?! #Rhidianread #Buddyread #imreallylate

CouronneDhiver Not to worry... mine was late arriving too. It‘s a good story 👍🏽 5mo
swishandflick Ooh, I saw the movie trailer for this recently and didn't realize it was based on a book! Looked good so I'll have to check this out. 5mo
Librarybelle Glad it arrived! I‘m still reading it and have a long way to go! 5mo

There‘s so much to say!

I learned a lot ... this story was set in post-WWII Hamburg, and included details of its military occupation, work and living conditions, social stigmas, reconstruction, etc, with a sympathetic undertone. I enjoyed the themes of compassion, loyalty, and resilience.

I felt a notable difference between this and our previous #BuddyRead books ... you can tell it was written by a man! 😏

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#RhidianRead

CouronneDhiver I could have done with a toned-down version of that infidelity plot line. 🙊 5mo
Crazeedi @CouronneDhiver agree with everything you said! Well worth reading about an era I haven't read about much. Great insight! 5mo
kspenmoll Thank‘s for your review & perspective. A novel set during post WWII occupation was new for me. 5mo

Librarybelle Great review! 5mo
mdhughes72 Male writers are often very different than female, aren‘t they? 5mo
mdhughes72 On another note, I love the rings! 5mo
CouronneDhiver Oh thanks! I notice the male vs female author thing more easily in historical fiction. In this one, we got much more descriptive detail in the sexy parts. 🙈 @mdhughes72 5mo
mdhughes72 I find that the difference isn‘t in the amount of description — in fact, it‘s not at all unusual for the women to be MORE explicit (e.g., The Pisces) — but rather in the tone. Women‘s writing of erotic scenes and stories strikes me as much more humane, joyful, playful. In short, sexier. Male writers seem more mechanistic — or worse. I‘ve quit reading Franzen precisely because of this. (edited) 5mo
RadicalReader Your ring is seriously the most stunning piece of jewelry I‘ve ever seen 5mo
CouronneDhiver Thank you so much! He had the diamond solitaire made, and I designed the peridot band. @RadicalReader 5mo

Procrastinators unite ✊🏽 @Lauram

I‘m avoiding my laundry heaps... and finishing the last of our Christmas candy 🤪

#RhidianRead

mdhughes72 I just discovered a stash of candy from last Halloween. It doesn‘t taste very good anymore. 5mo
Lauram Yay!!! I‘m so glad I‘m not the only one! 😂 5mo
Lauram @mdhughes72 I found a Snickers Easter egg from last year. I fully intend to eat it when the chocolate mood strikes. (edited) 5mo
