I didn‘t enjoy this one as much as Lippman‘s later books.

Pickpick

My second Anne Tyler this month. I seem to be in the mood for well-written observations on normal life. Micah is a quiet, well-mannered IT expert/apartment block caretaker who maintains routines in his everyday life almost to the point of obsession, until events throw the routines off track. It‘s a gentle, character-driven short novel and I adored it.

TheEllieMo @sherrisilvera I read French Braid last year and thought it was so-so, but I‘ve really enjoyed both this one and Three Days In June, so I think I just can‘t have been in the right frame of mind last year. 3mo

Baltimore Blues | Laura Lippman

Mehso-so

The first of a series I‘d liked to try after @Bookwormjillk posted about it and I enjoyed another book by Laura Lippmann. I am not sure if I will continue though. So many characters in this book, I couldn‘t keep track. And the plot was, well, okayish I think.

Bookwormjillk It probably helps that I live 45 minutes from Baltimore. 3mo
Susanita Yes, it‘s very Baltimore. The series gets more steady as Tess figures out what the heck she‘s doing as a PI. 3mo

This is why I struggle-bussed my way through book 2, because this one was good! Once again I wish the grown adults would simply talk to each other but whatever. I had a good time. If you don‘t mind age gaps and MILFs, give this one a go.

Listen, I went into this knowing it was a catfish romance, but like…neither of them had an arc?? Stacy needs some self worth, Dex and Daniel need some therapy, and also maybe they should all work on themselves before they get into relationships. I even forgave the initial catfishing, but everything after? UGH.

A good middle grade book with a male protagonist who struggles with a dilemma most kids deal with on a regular basis. Should he do the right thing and risk losing his friends?
